X Factor Big Band Week Tracklisting And ReviewWeek 3 Sees Joe McElderry Sway Blow Cheryl Cole And Judges Away
X Factor Week 3 Review - Saturday October 25, 2009. The 10 remaining contestants performed Big Band hits accompanied by a live brass orchestra.
Week 3 saw the ten remaining contestants performing swing hits accompanied by a full brass band. Almost all of the performers are really beginning to find their feet on the show but none more so than Geordie Joe McElderry. The 18-year-old showed a previously unseen confidence and swagger with his note-perfect rendition of Michael Buble hit Sway and cemented his place as one of the favourites to win the competition. Many other acts proved themselves to be king of swing although a couple did make a brass of themselves. Cheryl Cole’s Boys Lloyd Daniels and Joe McElderry A Class ApartLloyd Daniels – Fly Me To The Moon. Cheryl was criticised by last week’s departing act Rikki Loney for spending more time on her own solo performance then mentoring her acts and once again she seemed to be letting Lloyd play it way too safe with his performance. The swing classic was well sung but the viewing public aren’t seeing any personality from the 16-year-old. Having the X Factor is about more than boyish good looks and a half decent voice but at the moment that’s all Lloyd Daniels is giving us. Joe McElderry – Sway McElderry displayed all the characteristics of an X Factor winner in this performance. He showed exemplary vocals, fantastic confidence, flirted with the camera and even pulled off some smooth dance moves during his rendition of the Michael Buble hit. His best performance so far. Simon Cowell Accused Of Cheating After Jamie Archer’s Last Minute Song ChangeOlly Murs – Bewitched Big Band was an ideal theme for Olly, who crooned to perfection singing the theme tune to the popular television show Bewitched. Vocally, he may be the weakest of Simon’s acts but he has a cheeky, lovable attitude and looked in his element accompanied by two cute witches on stage. Complete with cheeky greetings and improvisations between lines, Olly put on a professional and entertaining show to open the programme. Jamie Archer – Angels Of Harlem Doubts about the former pub singer’s flexibility continue after a last minute change of song brought accusations of rule-breaking towards mentor Simon Cowell. Louis Walsh was right to point that the U2 hit can’t be classed as a big band song but the former pub singer still gave an impressive, if not particularly memorable, rendition. Danyl Johnson – Feeling Good It was always going to be hard for Danyl to keep up the incredible standard of his first two weeks on the show. This was possibly the least impressive of his live performances but it was still difficult to take your eyes off the bookies favourite. Dressed in classic rat pack attire, Johnson did a fantastic job of making the song his own. Rachel Adeji Matches Lucie and Stacey To Prove Dannii Minogue Has Three Class Acts.Rachel Adedeji – Proud Mary Rachel looked far more like a popstar in a technicoloured beaded dress and her performance was full of energy and pizzazz. She will always be the weakest vocally of the girls and will probably remain the least popular but if she can put on as lively and professional a performance every week, then she will have every chance of staying in the show for a while longer. Lucie Jones – My Funny Valentine Despite the slow pace of the song and the lack of dancers or gimmicks, it was difficult to take your eyes of Lucie’s spellbinding and effortlessly beautiful performance. The Welsh teenager undoubtedly has one of the most stunningly strong and clear voices in the competition but it remains to be seen if she has the star potential to go all the way. Stacey Solomon – When You Wish Upon A Star The same can be said of Dannii’s other young diva in the making. There is no doubting the strength of Stacey’s vocal talent but the teenage mum has yet to get to grip with her nerves which sometimes makes her uncomfortable to watch. She will undoubtedly have plenty of time on the show to improve on this, however. John and Edward Awful Performance Of She BangsMiss Frank – That’s Life All three girls are good singers but the intelligent use of branded clothing doesn’t hide that the sassy group is still lacking in chemistry. Graziella’s rapping skills made a welcome return during the girls’ take on the Frank Sinatra classic and gives the trio some originality. However, considering the history of girl groups doing notoriously badly in the competition, Miss Frank will be nervously awaiting Sunday’s results show. John and Edward – She Bangs John and Edward have improved from so bad it’s funny to just plain bad, which could well spell the end for the not so dynamic duo. Their attempted rendition of the Ricky Martin hit had all the attributes of a classic John and Edward performace. There was disgusting outfits, out of sync dancing and, of course, awful awful singing. However, it wasn’t as ridiculous as in previous weeks, which could ironically cause the voting public to tire of the terrible twins. The show was packed with high quality performances but one act will be voted off on Sunday. The nine remaining acts will be singing rock anthems in next week’s show. See also: Week 1 review
