On July 20, 2009 the men of The Bachelorette season five returned to tell their stories but not everyone was in attendance.
Jillian’s Private Chat
Before the men were brought out the viewers saw a video of Jillian and Chris talking privately. She said David was really disrespectful to her but she hopes he will watch the show, see what he did wrong and learn from it. Jillian said she wanted to play hard to get with Ed when he came back but her heart wouldn’t let her.
The whole world was probably waiting to hear Jillian talk about Wes. Jillian said she was really attracted to Wes and there were things about him (the relaxed, beer drinking by the fire traits) that made him the perfect man for her. Jillian said she didn’t see the red flags, though. In the end, Jillian said she now realizes Wes was only there to sell CDs and he probably did have someone on the side.
Jason and Molly Return
Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney from season 13 of The Bachelor returned. Viewers got to see a glimpse in to their everyday life, and the couple seemed to be completely in love. Jason said he could definitely see himself marrying Molly, and Molly said she would marry him tomorrow.
Welcome the Men
Reid and Wes were not in attendance. Reid had a “prior engagement,” and no real reason was given for Wes’ absence. The men that were there couldn’t stop raving about Jillian but they attacked each other a lot.
The men first watched clips about what the other men thought of them. They laughed it off, but Jake seemed to get the brunt of it. They said Jake “pulled a Mesnick” most of the time because he was just too emotional, and most of them men felt he was really fake.
David’s “man code” came up. Some of the men defended David, saying Juan just got the best of David, but others defended Juan, who pointed out that David disrespected Jillian. Mainly, the men were upset Juan faked the shot because he didn’t explain why he didn’t want the shot. The air clearing between David and Juan was honestly 15 minutes long and turned in to Tanner P. defending himself about not owning up to telling Jillian about Wes’ girlfriend.
David defended his disrespectful actions. He said he had been there one month and didn’t see anything wrong with going for a kiss. He did admit maybe he did do a few disrespectful things, and later he apologized to Jillian.
Jake said he has no regrets about telling Jillian about Wes, and he was not upset she gave him one more chance. Some of the men, like Jesse, thought Jake’s return was inappropriate but most of them men, like Robby, were happy to see it happen.
The audience was given the chance to comment on Wes. No one supported his actions, and a sarcastic musical tribute to Wes was shown. The tribute had some of his most awful comments, including that he is “the hidden agenda guy” and “I’ll always have Jillian wrapped around my little finger.”
Jillian quickly came on stage to confront them men. Mike told Jillian she really helped him figure out what kind of woman he is looking for. The group also watched some hilarious bloopers. Before leaving she said she is truly happy.
At the end of the episode viewers saw a sneak peak of the two-hour finale, which airs next Monday, July 27, 2009 at 8 p.m. on ABC. A shocking reveal - Reid with a ring.
