SYTYCD Top 6 Performance Recaps

Each week the dancers draw new partners while Canadians vote for their favourite individual dancer each week. Tonight's dances featured solos, two pair dances, and group routines.

Top Three Guys: The top three guys performed a macho latin funk routine choreographed by Gustavo Vargas. A fun and funky routine, Everett and Vincent looked together all of the time while Emanuel fell behind. Mary found it fun and thought Everett stole the show. Rex agreed that Everett performed the best. Tre didn't feel Emanuel was as funky as he could have been.

Top Three Girls: The top three girls danced a contemporary piece by Mia Michaels. The routine featured angelic movements across a stage filled with fog. Each of the dancers excelled and gave a stunning performance. Mary found it a strong number and couldn't pick a favourite - everyone did an exceptional job.

Vincent & Tara Jean: Vincent & Tara-Jean danced salsa choreographed by Gustavo Vargas. The sexy routine featured plenty of hip rolls and fast leg movements. A big lift required Tara-jean to spin around in the air with Vincent catching her, which came off without any problem. However, Tara-Jean's jewelry did fly across the stage. Mary loved the routine and screamed like a hyena throughout her comments.

For their second dance, the pair drew contemporary and were choreographed by Stacey Tookey. A dark routine touching on mental illness, Tara Jean developed a strong character and the pair danced it beautifully. Mary called them her favourite couple while Rex thought Tara Jean found the depth and emotion of the piece.

  • Vincent danced an entertaining, gyrating ballroom solo.
  • Tara-Jean danced a sultry contemporary solo to Fever by Michael Buble.

Everett & Melanie: Everett & Melanie drew jazz rock and were choreographed by Melissa Williams. The pair danced a fast-paced, fierce routine. Portions of the dance felt slightly out of sync and not performed cleanly. Melanie attacked it while Everett seemed a bit off. Rex thought the pair committed to it while Tre thought both rocked the routine.

For their second dance, the pair drew hip-hop and were choreographed by Luther Brown. The dance showcased Melanie's talent but showed Everett's limitations. Rex wanted to see them hit it a bit harder while Tre found Melanie perfect and thought Everett danced it like a man.

  • Melanie danced a contemporary solo piece filled with emotion and grace.
  • Everett danced a fun toe-tapping solo in which he danced on the points of his toes.

Emanuel & Jayme Rae: Emanuel & Jayme Rae drew quick step and were choreographed by Pierre Allaire. Normally a kiss of death, the pair served up an entertaining routine although it lacked fast footwork. Mary felt mixed and found it mediocre although entertaining. Rex agreed with Mary that the steps were heavy and the dancers didn't maintain good frames.

For their second dance, the pair drew jazz funk with Blake McGrath. Jayme Rae stole the number and out danced Emanuel. Mary found it well done but didn't see any chemistry between the two.

  • Jayme Ray danced a powerful solo but it seemed choppy and not fluid.
  • Emanuel danced a shirtless rock number with jumps and flips.
