Sep 16, 2009 Allen Williams

The top 14 So You Think You Can Dance Canada dancers took the stage to perform everything from cha cha to a fast-paced house routine.

Last week's Wednesday night results show for So You Think You Can Dance Canada kicked off with an energetic Afro-Brazilian routine choreographed by Jean Marc. Anthony and Corynne stood out during last week's performances as did Emanuel and Kim. The voting results placed three couples in danger and the judges eliminated the couple of Nicholas and Jenna Lynn.

This week featured the top 14 dancers with special guest judges Dan Karaty and Karen Kain. The judges commented on last week's performances and how the remaining dancers are struggling with numerous injuries. Emanuel broke his fingers last week and Natalie suffered a dental emergency. Tara Jeans displays cuts on her wrists while Kim has severe bruising. From here until the end of the competition, endurance will be a key factor.

The following dance performance recaps may contain spoilers. Each couple's performance is reviewed and may contain comments from the judges.

SYTYCD Top 14 Performance Recaps

Everett & Tara-Jean: Having survived quick step last week, Everett and Tara Jean drew house and were choreographed by Sho-Tyme. The routine started slow and seemed a little too aerobic in motion. Tara jean made it bouncy and had a better grasp of the movement than Everett. The audience clapped along to the music and Dan thought the performance looked easily done although highly complex. Tre thought it was amazing.

Vincent & Amy: Narrowly escaping elimination last week, Vincent and Amy drew cha cha and were choreographed by Gustavo Vargas. The routine featured dangerous and difficult moves. The couple managed to perform an engaging and entertaining routine, a bounce-back from last week. Dan thought they made it fun and sexy while Karen found it heartfelt but suggested Amy watch her extensions.

Cody & Melanie M.: Crowd favourites, Cody and Melanie received hip-hop and were choreographed by Luther Brown. Cody returned to his dance style and Melanie tore it up, possibly out-dancing a stellar Cody. The crowd went wild with applause and screams. Dan thought both dancers nailed it while Karen found it convincing. Jean Marc found it exuberant.

Emanuel & Kim: Popular couple, Kim and Emanuel drew contemporary this week and were paired with Stacy Tookey. The routine looked effortless but seemed to lack a strong emotional connection between the two dancers. Dan thought it was completely flawless. Karen thought it was quietly artistic and was impressed by the dancers overcoming their combined injuries.

Danny & Natalie: Safe last week, Danny and Natalie drew west coast swing and were choreographed by Benji Schwimmer. The routine offered up a confusing mix of swing and non-swing elements which the team seemed to dance well. Transitions seemed a bit rocky and stiff throughout. Dan found it a different approach to the west coast swing and thought the dancers did great. Tre found it difficult to critique fairly since she didn't know the dance but enjoyed it.

Daniel & Jayme Rae: Powerful duo, Daniel and Jayme Rae drew disco this week and were choreographed by Melissa Williams. A fast-paced routine, the couple brought energy to the choreography but Dan didn't think it was a good performance or representation of true disco. Tre disagreed with Dan and thought it was a great job.

Austin & Corynne: Breaking the elimination curse, Austin and Corynne drew jazz and were choreographed by John Byrne. The routine featured a sensual and powerful interpretation with big lifts and jumps. The clear winner of the night. Karen enjoyed the chemistry while Tre predicted Corynne and Austin will be in the top 10.

SYTYCD Top 14 Audience Favourites

The audience responded to the hip-hop of Cody & Melanie as well as Everett & Tara Jean's house dance. It remains to be seen if the audience enjoyed the west coast swing by Danny & Natalie as it seemed to confuse the judges. The clear winners of the night were Austin & Corynne.

Emanuel & Kim delivered a solid contemporary performance but it was more subtle than the other dances of the night. The routine from Daniel & Jayme Rae came with mixed reviews and it seemed the audience sided with Dan Karaty as his strong criticism didn't receive any major boos.
