The Pick Up Artist – Week 7

Moving Targets and Exotic Dancers

Three students remain as they learn to pick up women on the run and at work.

It’s one thing to approach a woman in a club, or even out and about during the day. It’s another to get a phone number when they are running or walking right past you. But that’s the reward challenge for the three remaining contestants: to successfully open a moving set.

Reward Challenge: Open a Moving Set

Mystery gives the guys three rules for a moving set game:

  1. Objects in motion tend to stay in motion.
  2. If you approach a girl on the street you have absolutely no value.
  3. Pick up artists don’t chase. Women choose us.

The reward challenge involves picking up a woman on a footbridge. Whoever can successfully do this will win Tara as a “pivot,” or in Mystery terminology: “a woman who assists in opening sets.”

Kosmo, Joe, and Brady get ready to practice their moving game as Mystery hides discreetly off to the side wearing a fake brown beard and straw hat. Before leaving the guys on their own, Mystery offered one important piece of advice that the guys should not say, “excuse me” to any of the approaching women. Despite that, each and every one did just that.

In general the guys failed to “stack,” or move from one routine to another, as they worked their moving target game. Joe, in particular, used the same “fight” opener to the point of exhaustion. After that he switched to the “jealous girlfriend” question which netted even less interest. Joe was disappointed in his performance.

Brady and Kosmo did no better than Joe, prompting Mystery to inform the guys that they “took a step back” in the challenge. He advised them to do some deep soul searching and reminded them that none would get Tara as their pivot in the next challenge.

Field Challenge: Pick Up An Exotic Dancer

Mystery announced that the field test would be picking up an exotic dancer He further indicated that the key to the challenge would be to have an attitude like, “just hanging out,” and suggested that if the guys can keep their money in their pocket and their hands off the talent, they will be successful. He also told the guys that they couldn’t trust the usual “IOI’s,” or indicators of interest, as the girls are paid to show attention to the customers.

The guys all manage to do better in the field challenge than they did in the earlier reward challenge. Kosmo engages a girl quite easily, but seems to lose focus and forgets that the ultimate goal was picking her up. Joe opened a set easily and seemed to have a girl who was very interested in him, but as has been his problem from the start, he failed to gain attraction.

Brady started slow and made the error of disrespecting the first few girls that came up to him. However, he soon caught on and was the only one to successfully get one of the girls to go with him to the limo waiting outside. He got a kiss from the girl and meets the challenge, winning immunity for the week and securing a place in the finals.

Brady takes the first medallion, which this week represents joy. Mystery tells both Joe and Kosmo that he honestly doesn’t know whom he is going to eliminate. He asks both men to tell him why he should allow them to continue to the finals, and listens closely as each states his case. Finally, he tells Joe that he hasn’t seemed to progress to the level he needs to be, and he will have to continue his training on his own. For Joe, it’s game over.
