The Pick Up Artist – Week 5Body Image and Daytime Sets
Mystery helps the five remaining students confront body image issues by hosting a pool party. The daytime fun continues at a coffee shop.
The guys are gaining in pick up knowledge, having previously practiced gambits, stories, and kissing. This week the lesson is on expressing body confidence. Mystery tells the guys that “words can lie, but our bodies will always tell the truth.” It’s an interesting way to announce the next challenge, as the guys are told they will be hosting a pool party. If approaching bikini-clad women weren’t enough, they will also be wearing Speedo swimsuits besides. The student that best demonstrates overall body image wins the reward challenge and a “special something” intended to give a leg up in the field test. Kosmo Hates SpeedosKosmo, who is seemingly in the best shape of the group, expresses his dismay at having to bare most of his body. He says he “not only hates Speedos, he’s allergic to them.” Kosmo adds to his collection of sound bites by uttering, “This is like asking a Jehovah’s Witness to celebrate Christmas!” Ironically, it’s Joe D. who is the most comfortable with his body. Despite his near 300-pound frame, he easily moves through the crowd of women, and has a commanding presence on the entire group. Pradeep shows his jealousy at this and even confronts Joe D. at one point, telling him one of the girls he talked to was “his target” and not Joe’s. When Joe D. wins the pool party challenge, Pradeep admits his anger and indicates an impulse to leave. As winner of the challenge Joe D. gets to use “Niquito,” an adorable puppy, as part of the field test, which this time will be held at a coffee shop during the day. Mystery tells the guys that things happen slowly during the day, so they should watch their technique and approach indicators. Joe D. and His PuppyJoe D. relies on his puppy to help attract women, but unfortunately his first target pets the dog and then just leaves. Kosmo starts off in the quiet zone again, looking lost and not smiling. Brady opens a set easily but then can’t seem to escalate the conversation. Joe W. says he’s less nervous for the daytime field test, but when he approaches a set he tells them “Hair” is his favorite musical. This prompts one of the girls to ask him if he’s straight – never a good sign if one is trying to pick up a woman. Pradeep wins the field test, not only opening a set but also successfully engaging a girl in conversation and then getting her phone number. At elimination time, it’s clear the guys have really bonded and are sad that one of them has to leave. Mystery reminds them that everything they’ve learned is “a lot more than picking up girls. It’s about building a life.” Orange medallions, signifying “harvest,” are handed out. Mystery underscores this by telling the guys “What you sow, so shall you reap.” Joe W. Goes HomeIn the end, it’s Joe W. who goes home. Mystery says his last two field tests were weak and it seems that he’s not stepping up his game as much as the other guys are. Afterward Joe W. tells viewers that he’s realized he wants a lady in his life and has learned a lot from the experience, adding, “If I’m not taking a lady out three or four times a week, I’ll be surprised.” Next up: From attraction to seduction.
