The Pick Up Artist – Week 4

Kisses Sweeter Than Wine

Six remaining students get a lesson in smooching.

Previously on The Pick Up Artist, the guys learned about storytelling in order to get a girl's attention. This time, the focus is on kissing, which leaves the guys both nervous and excited. Mystery, looking ever the fetching chick magnet in oversized bug goggles and an Abe Lincoln hat, begins the episode by asking the guys this basic question, “Do you think you’re a good kisser?” While he lets them ruminate on this thought, he tells them they’ll be learning the art of kissing from two of Mystery’s wingwomen, Tara and Leah.

Tara Helps Judge the Best Kisser

Joe D. confesses that he’s never initiated a kiss before, and is worried that a woman might just slap him in the face if he tried it. Mystery reminds the guys that a first kiss should mean comfort to a girl, not arousal. He starts by telling them to make a “C” with their fingers, slowly brushing hair off the girl’s face and then going in for the kiss.

The guys practice by kissing fruit, a slightly uncomfortable site for the viewer, but crucial to the learning process. Mystery announces that as the challenge for this lesson, each guy will be judged on how well they kiss Tara Tara is then blindfolded to ensure complete fairness in judging.

Scott looks awkward and odd in managing his kiss, and yet later declares himself an “extremely passionate” kisser. Joe D. follows, with a bashful kiss that is both sweet and seductive. Brady admits that he believes himself to be a very good kisser, while Joe W. did a version of “kiss and run,” planting a quick smooch on Tara and then heading out of the room.

Pradeep goes with the aggressive method, grabbing Tara by the head and taking control. While this maneuver looked a bit menacing to the viewer, Tara admits that she rather liked it. Kosmo rounds things out by telling viewers that he knows he’s going to win this challenge because as a Latino “right when we’re like zero we know how to make out.”

Kosmo’s prediction, it turns out, is correct. He single handedly won the challenge, while Joe D. and Pradeep came in tied for second. As winner of the “kiss challenge” Kosmo gets the advantage of Mystery’s coaching later that night during the field test. Through the benefit of technology, Kosmo will have Mystery’s voice in his ear to guide him on this quest.

Kiss-Tactics

Before the field test, however, the guys are given more knowledge from Mystery on the “kiss-tactics” needed to impress a woman. He says the guys should start by initiating a “kino,” (light touch to the woman’s arm or face) and then following this by “rolling off” (showing disinterest). They should also watch for “IOI’s” (indicators of interest) by the woman such as touching their face or hair.

The field test challenge, then, involved choosing a target (woman) and kissing her. Brady looks strong at the start, choosing a girl that seemed very interested in him. He made general conversation for a bit too long, however, and eventually the girl moved away. Brady had no further success.

Joe D. also seemed to get great vibes from the woman he chose, but his shyness prevented him from going further.

Pradeep, meanwhile, stayed with his earlier method of using force. He pulls a girl’s arm to get her to come with him, at one point telling her that he’s a “VIP” and has free alcohol. Not only does he not succeed in a “kiss close,” Mystery chides him later for trying to force a girl to kiss him rather than enticing her to willingly do so

Scott starts off the night by inexplicably talking to a girl with a boyfriend. When he doesn’t succeed with her walks around the club looking lost.

Joe D. and Joe W. talk to a set together, where Joe W. has a girl so interested in him she practically plants a kiss on him, instead of the other way around. He comes close to abiding, but in the end didn’t succeed.

Kosmo Benefits From Mystery's Coaching

Kosmo, with Mystery verbally guiding his every word and action, is the only one to successfully pull off the mission. He wins the challenge and chooses Joe D. and Joe W. as his wingmen. Mystery hands out green medallions to the trio, who will remain safe from elimination for this week. He commends both Joes on their continued improvement, and tells them the green in the medallion represents “enlightenment,” or light at the end of the tunnel. He next hands a medallion to Brady, reminding him that he can’t rely on his looks. Mystery tells Pradeep that he should keep working the method rather than trying to revise things.

He informs Scott that while he rarely has had a student apply himself so earnestly to the teachings, it is still “game over” for him. As Scott leaves he sends a message out to the woman viewers: “The Scott is coming!”
