With nine contestants already eliminated, the remaining players work to lose weight in the second week. A tough challenge and the first temptation await them.

In the first episode of The Biggest Loser: Couples 2, the 22 contestants were shocked to discover that nine of them would be leaving the Biggest Loser Ranch after the first week. They headed home for a month to prove that it is possible to lose the weight at home. The thirteen contestants that remain on the Ranch are determined to stay where they are so their partners can return to the game. Throughout the second episode, videos air showing the progress and challenges of the players at home.

The Contestants Face Temptation

Everyone who has tried to lose weight has faced temptation, and it is no different on the Biggest Loser Ranch. The contestants face host Alison Sweeney for their first temptation challenge. A limousine is parked on the Ranch, and Alison offers the competitors $5,000 to leave immediately. All they have to do is step over the white line to accept the money. No one moves, so Alison pulls another $5,000 out of her pocket. After no one budges, she raises the stakes to $25,000. Though most of the contestants are stepped back from the line, Joelle Gwynn was seriously considering the money. As a 41 year-old woman living with her mother, that amount of cash would make a difference. However, Joelle reluctantly withstood the temptation for her friend Carla Triplett who went home.

Hiking and Kayaking Challenge

Alison Sweeney takes the contestants on a boat off the coast, and announces this week’s challenge. Each contestant will kayak the quarter mile to shore and then race uphill to their team flag. The top four finishers will each receive a phone call home and the winner will also have immunity from elimination this week. The person who comes in last will receive a one-pound penalty at the weigh-in. The black and brown teams must each choose one teammate to participate.

The race was close between Tara Costa and Blaine Cotter. Nearing the top, Tara took off running. Blaine thought he could catch up but his legs cramped up and Tara arrived at the top of the hill first, receiving immunity for the week. Mandi Cramer and Helen Phillips receive the other two phone calls home. Mike Morelli, Damien Gurganious, Kristine Steede, Joelle, Filipe Fa, and Jerry Hayes arrive at the top next. Several of Jillian’s team members head down the hill to cheer on Dan Wright as he finishes the competition. Unfortunately, he comes in last and receives a one-pound penalty for the upcoming weigh-in. In a generous move, Tara gives her phone call to Filipe so he can talk to his wife and children.

Bob and Joelle Face Off

During the last chance workout, it becomes obvious that Joelle is not giving her full effort, despite the fact that trainer Bob Harper spends more time with her than any other contestant. She continues to get off the treadmill before their time is up. Eventually, the calm yoga instructor loses his cool and screams at her about her lack of commitment. Carla went home, trusting Joelle to stay, and so many other people want to be in Joelle’s spot. It frustrates Bob to see someone not giving their all. Fellow trainer Jillian Michaels and her team laugh at Bob’s outburst, because it is something much more common to Jillian.

The Weigh-in and Elimination Ceremony

The second week is notoriously difficult on the Biggest Loser Ranch. Because of their huge weight losses the first week, many players have found themselves with smaller losses this week. Tara weighs in first and only loses a pound, but she has immunity for the week. Both members of the black team had high numbers, winning them the weigh-in. Joelle only lost two pounds, putting her at risk of falling below the yellow line.

Unfortunately, Dan and Jerry find themselves on the bottom together. If Dan did not have the penalty from the challenge, Joelle would have been under the yellow line instead. As the largest and oldest players to ever come to the Ranch, they both are in need of the Biggest Loser diet and trainers. During the deliberations, Mike gives a persuasive speech about why Dan should stay. While Jerry was thin at one point in his life, Dan has never been thin. In the elimination room, Jerry was sent home. Though he is not the Biggest Loser, he said that he was the Biggest Winner. At the time of the episode, he had lost 84 pounds and his wife Estella was below 200 pounds.

The Biggest Loser: Couples 2 airs Tuesday nights at 8 PM on NBC. Stay tuned to see who falls below the yellow line next week.
