The Amazing Race 15 Episode 2 Recap
Teams Compete in Ho Chi Minh City; Marcy and Ron Eliminated
As they departed the Pit Stop on the Bassac III riverboat to start this leg of The Amazing Race, most teams realized the boat had moved during the night. However, a few teams did not realize the boat had traveled from the Cai Be market in Ho Chi Minh City to the town of My Tho. This created some confusion as teams received their first clue to travel to Ho Chi Minh City, two hours away.
Golden Dragon Water Puppets
Teams had to travel by taxi to Ho Chi Minh City and find the Golden Dragon Water Puppet Theater to receive their next clue. Since father and son Gary and Matt were the first to arrive at the end of the last leg, they were first to leave. However, they got stuck in traffic, and the Harlem Globetrotters were the first team to arrive at the theater.
To receive their next clue, the teams had to lean over a pool of water and grab a clue from the mouth of one of the dragon puppets swimming in the pool. The task was not an easy one, as the dragon puppets would dart just out of reach. Big Easy and Flight Time were the first team to grab their clue.
As teams retrieved their clue, they discovered a small bullet containing a postage stamp and no written instructions. Lance and Keri were confused, and tried to exchange the bullet for an envelope, not realizing the clue was contained in the bullet. They wasted precious moments searching for a clue envelope.
The other teams realized they had to find the building pictured on the postage stamp. After asking locals on the streets, teams discovered the building was the post office.
Detour: Child's Play or Word Play
At the post office, teams received a clue for the first Detour of The Amazing Race 15. The teams had to choose between Child's Play and Word Play.
In Child's Play, teams had to travel to a local park, choose a concrete animal, and transport the animal through the park. Along the way, teams had to pick up five different colors of balloons, and then deliver the balloons and the concrete animal to the children's playground. All the teams except for Marcy and Ron chose this Detour.
Teams arrived to select their animals and place them on a cart to make the journey through the park. Teams who were smart chose the animals such as sheep and crouching tigers because they were lower to the ground and easier to transport. Zev and Justin chose a giraffe, which kept falling over. Tiffany and Maria broke their dolly while crossing the street; and Tiffany felt like passing out as she did most of the heavy work in this task.
In Word Play, teams had to go to a hotel's observation deck and scan a crowded traffic circle in the streets below for six Vietnamese letters. Once they had the letters, the teams could leave the hotel and get assistance from the locals in order to spell a common Vietnamese word using the six letters.
Marcy and Ron were the only team to select Word Play. They identified all of the letters after their second attempt. They then tried to identify the word they needed by scanning street signs and billboards, but were unsuccessful. After asking a local man for help, they discovered the correct word, DOCLAP, which is the Vietnamese word for independence.
Roadblock: Recycling VCR's
Once teams successfully completed their Detour, the next clue directed them to Dien Co 008, where they found a Roadblock. In the Roadblock, one teammate had to tear down two VCRs using tools that were provided. After breaking down the VCR's, they had to divide the parts into the correct piles for reuse.
Flight Time, Cheyne and Matt all began tearing down their VCR's at almost the same time. Flight Time finished first, with Cheyne right behind him. The final clue of this leg sent the teams to the Pit Stop at the Reunification Palace.
Lance and Keri continued to have difficulties, and could not locate the Roadblock. After finally finding where they needed to be, Lance performed the task at the Roadblock, where Justin and Canaan were attempting to finish. Canaan finished ahead of Lance, but Lance successfully completed the task before Justin. Lance and Keri, and Justin and Zev left the Roadblock just as Marcy and Ron were arriving.
Marcy and Ron Eliminated
Flight Time and Big Easy arrived at the Pit Stop at Reunification Palace in first place, beating out Meghan and Cheyne in a foot race to the mat. Gary and Matt were third, followed by Brian and Ericka, Sam and Dan, Maria and Tiffany, Mika and Canaan, and Zev and Justin. Despite all their troubles throughout this leg, Lance and Keri finished in ninth place, and were able to stay in The Amazing Race. Marcy and Ron stepped on the mat last, and were eliminated from the Race.
