Survivor Season 19 Episode 6 Was Marred By Near Death of Contestant

A Survivor tragedy almost took place on episode six, season 19. The potential Survivor tragedy involved Russell, who had pushed himself very hard to compete and perform well on the show, and his body had finally decided that enough was enough. This almost led to a real Survivor tragedy as he lost consciousness right in front of everyone.
Survivor Samoa Episode Six
After about fifteen days in Samoa, many of the contestants looked like they had seen better days in their lives. For about three straight days the rain had kept falling on the island, meaning that for nearly 72 straight hours the remaining 14 contestants were forced to really battle the elements. A lot of the time Survivor tries to make it seem like the contestants are having a hard time during a season, but you could see it in the eyes of these ones that this season has taken a serious turn.
With no real shelter to protect themselves from the rains, both tribes were forced to deal with the wetness and the cold for quite some time. One particular contestant was trying his hardest to show how tough he was, and that included trying to keep a fire going out in the rain. This was Russell, who is the leader of the Galu tribe, and who has done great for his tribe, even with a couple of leadership decisions that could have been better. It was pushing himself this hard that would turn on him a little later.
Survivor Samoa Week 6: Reward Challenge
This week on Survivor both tribes were able to participate in a challenge where the winning tribe was going to be treated with pizza as a prize. Host Jeff Probst announced the twist that no matter what the results of the challenge though, both tribes would be voting someone out at tribal council later in the day. The win would thus be short-lived for the tribe that was able to come out on top.
The object of this challenge was for one member of each tribe to get inside this big ball that looked like a hamster ball made out of wood. They would then be rolled down a course by two members of their tribe that were blindfolded before the person in the ball would have to guide four people in how to complete a puzzle maze while they were still blindfolded.
It looked like a tough challenge, with the teams evenly matched through the first stage, and both tribes were doing well until what is being called the Survivor tragedy occurred. While Russell was negotiating making his way to the puzzle, he started wavering, and he looked very disoriented. Then as he made it to the puzzle, he passed out right on the spot, held up only by the puzzle. Some people didn’t know what was going on, and Jeff Probst became very alarmed.
Medical personnel were called in to assist Russell, who had his blood pressure drop severely before he went all the way to the ground. At this point Jeff Probst ended the challenge and sent both tribes back to their camps with no winner. The medical staff attempted to treat Russell and let him sit back up, but he passed out again and it looked almost like he had died right on the spot. They pulled him from the game, and we find out later that he is doing better after receiving treatment.
Survivor Samoa Week 6 Tribal Council
During the week six tribal council, both tribes (all 13 people) were taken to tribal council, where Jeff Probst gave an update on Russell’s condition. Everyone discussed what had taken place, but the big news was that Jeff Probst announced that nobody else would be going home because of what had taken place. It was a short reprieve for anyone that might have been voted out, but a sad moment for the member’s of Russell’s tribe that now missed him a lot.
