One tribe had been dominating the 19th season of Survivor so far, but heading into the eighth episode of the season, the possibility existed that something might change.

The Galu tribe had been very successful at nearly every challenge up to this point, and that gave them a big advantage in tribe members by eight to four so far. Coming into the either episode of Survivor Samoa, it really looked like the Foa Foa tribe was in trouble, and that if there wasn’t something within the game to shake things up, that they could get picked off one by one.

Survivor Samoa Episode 8

After a few interactions back at the camps showing that Russell was still running things in Foa Foa, and that Shambo had many enemies in the Galu tribe, tree mail revealed that the two tribes needed to head out for a meeting. Both tribes came upon each other and a treasure chest on the beach, and discovered a note telling them that they would all be merged into one tribe. This merge is really going to shake things up, and it will be interesting to see if the four person Foa Foa tribe is able to survive being picked off by the larger portion of the Galu tribe.

The cast-aways were only able to enjoy their celebration meal for a few short moments before people started breaking off and chatting about what their next moves in the game were going to be. Some of them seemed oblivious to things though, and that could be their downfall if they don’t act to find some alliances as soon as they possibly can. The tribes decided to go back to the Galu camp, because they had won more of the rewards and had a nice set-up going already in the game. They voted to re-name the tribe as Aiga, when one of the Galu members said that it meant “extended family”.

Survivor Samoa First Individual Challenge

The announcement at the immunity challenge was that it would be a double immunity challenge, meaning that one woman and one man would each win an immunity necklace from the challenge. The Survivor Samoa episode eight immunity challenge was a game of T-Ball, where each person got to swing at a ball and drive it on to a course where there were points assigned to different areas of the field. The person who hit the best shot into the highest point total would win the immunity necklace for each sex.

With the men going first Russell looked like he could win it with an early 4 pointer, but the last person to go (John) got 5 points and with it the winning swing for the men’s immunity necklace. The same thing happened with the women, with Kelly ahead with a 3 pointer until the last person came up (Laura) and beat her with a 4 pointer. That meant that John and Laura were the winners of the individual immunity, and that means that one of the other ten people would be going home in that night’s first single tribe tribal council.

Survivor Samoa Episode 8 Tribal Council

In the first tribal council for the new tribe (Aiga) it was anyone’s guess who was going to go home. The day leading up to the vote was a scramble for many of the people who were trying to figure out who they could trust and who needed to go home right away. The two people that had won the individual immunity challenges were throwing a big monkey wrench into things, and that meant that two people had immunity, and two people still had the hidden immunity idols ready to be played if necessary.

Jeff Probst gathered the votes and slowly read off who had received votes for the week. Before he could read the first name, Russell turned in the immunity idol to make sure that he was protected for the week. When the dust had settled, it turned out that Galu had turned on one of their members, and it was Erik who was sent out as the first member of the Survivor Samoa jury.
