Episode 5 of Survivor Samoa, titled “Walking on Thin Ice,” the Galu Tribe rebounded after losing Immunity for the first time last episode. After enduring one of the worst storms in Survivor history, the losing Foa Foa Tribe was stuck in their shelter, unable to strategize before the vote. Find out who ultimately went home below.

Shambo’s on Shaky Ground

After Galu’s first Tribal Council, Shambo was distraught over being the only member of her tribe to vote for Monica. As Shambo tried to recover the tribe’s fire, Laura noted that it was pleasant in the shelter without Shambo there. Monica agreed, stating that Shambo was her next target.

Reward Challenge: Gross Food

Tribes arrived at the challenge to see an array of seafood, from octopi to jellyfish. Opposing tribe members would drop a ball onto a wheel. Whichever food items the ball stopped on would be blended up into a milkshake that the tribe members would have to drink. The first tribe to five points would win a barbecue feast. In addition, the winning tribe’s leader would send a castaway over to observe at the losing tribe.

In the first round, Jaison squared off against Shambo. Shambo wasted no time in drinking the mixture of giant clam, sea snail, octopus and noni juice, while Jaison struggled to keep it down. In the end, both tribes earned their first point.

After both Russells successfully downed a jellyfish shake, Brett and Mick drank a giant clam-sea cucumber smoothie, and Liz and Monica earned a point for finishing a sea urchin-sea noodle concoction, it came down to Ashley and Dave. They landed on sea slug guts, which Jeff called the worst food item out of all of them. Ashley plugged her nose and tried to drink, but after some taunting from Erik, she ran off into the bushes to throw up. Dave successfully drank the whole mixture, winning reward for his Galu tribe.

Shambo Goes Back to Foa Foa

Russell once again chose Shambo to go to the other tribe. Shambo was not pleased with the choice and asked Russell to “spread the love” since she had already been chosen. Russell stuck with his decision, saying that Shambo had to be punished for losing the tribe’s chicken.

Back at Foa Foa, Shambo vented about losing out on the steak reward. Mick expressed his surprise at Ashley losing the challenge, saying that she’s not carrying her weight. Meanwhile, Natalie comforted Ashley, who felt responsible for the tribe’s loss.

Things Heat Up at Galu

The Galu tribe was excited to enjoy the barbecue feast, but Russell couldn’t start the fire because the wood was wet. Dave grew frustrated, which caused Russell to tell him that he does a lot of talking but not a lot of action. Dave shot back that he was the first one to start a fire. Eventually, after more banter between the two, Dave took over and proceeded to start the fire. The tribe finally enjoyed their feast.

Who has the Hidden Immunity Idol?

At Foa Foa, Shambo decided to share the clues to the Hidden Immunity Idol with Foa Foa since “they were more of a tribe to [her] than Galu.” After reading the third clue, she immediately knew the Idol’s location, but the Idol wasn’t there. Shambo suspected that Ben was voted off without playing it at Tribal Council, but in reality Russell had it. Later that day, Liz accused Russell of lying when he said he didn’t have the Idol. He told her that she would be voted out next for threatening him.

Stormy in Samoa

On Night 13, both tribes were pelted with one of the fiercest storms in Survivor history. The Galu Tribe regretted not choosing the tarp as their reward in the third episode.

Immunity Challenge

The tribes arrived, drenched in rain, for the next Immunity Challenge. As Shambo rejoined her tribe, Jeff observed that Erik was the only Galu member who welcomed her back. Monica bluntly replied: “It’s a game, I wouldn’t take it personally, we’re trying to stay warm.”

With that, Jeff explained the rules of the challenge. Two members of each tribe would hold onto nets that the other tribe members would attempt to fill with coconuts. The more coconuts that were added to the net, the harder it would be to hold on. The tribe member who held on the longest would win Immunity for the tribe.

From the beginning, John from Galu performed extremely well, launching several coconuts into Foa Foa’s nets. Ashley, on the other hand, didn’t made a single shot, putting Foa Foa at a big disadvantage. With John and Erik loading his net with coconuts, Russell was first out of the challenge. It was up to Liz to hold on for Foa Foa and outlast both Russell S. and Laura for Galu.

Liz struggled to hold onto her net and eventually let go. Galu won their fourth Immunity Challenge out of five. That night, Foa Foa would lose its fifth member.

Foa Foa Stuck in the Shelter

It had been raining for 48 hours. Normally, before Tribal Council, the tribe members would scramble but they couldn’t speak privately because they were all stuck in the shelter together to stay dry. Everyone decided to vote for who they think should go home without discussing it with the others.

Before the vote, Russell weighed his options between voting out Liz or Ashley. Liz had told him she didn’t trust him but she was stronger than Ashley, so it was a dilemma. In the end, it was Ashley Trainer, the 22 year-old spa saleswoman from Minnesota, who was voted out in a 3-2 vote. Now Foa Foa is down four members compared to Galu. Can the tribe turn it around and make a comeback?
