In one of the most racially-charged episodes of Survivor ever, a confrontation erupts between two tribe members at a memorable Tribal Council.

Episode 3 of Survivor: Samoa, titled “It’s Called A Russell Seed,” highlighted the disparity between the tribes as Foa Foa continued to struggle while Galu enjoyed yoga and relaxation. The tribes squared off in another physical challenge and two tribe members had it out over racist comments at Tribal Council. Here’s a recap of how it all went down:

Ben on Jaison’s Chopping Block

At the Foa Foa Camp, Jaison tried to convince Mick that Ben should be the next to go due to his racist comments against Yasmin. Meanwhile, Russell tried to solidify his alliance with Natalie, who was indecisive when it came to making moves in the game.

Ben’s Survival Skills

At Foa Foa, the tribe was still struggling with fire. Ben tried to teach Mick how to use the flint, but he was unsuccessful. Ben concluded that he was the only outdoorsy member of his tribe, saying “Without my help, these people will die.” Russell conceded that Ben would have to stay longer because he is good in the challenges, and that one of his “babies” would have to be sent home.

Survivor or 90210?

At Galu, some the tribe took a few moments off to enjoy a yoga session. Laura reflected, “We don’t always have to be in game mode. That’s a huge advantage that we have over Foa Foa.” But Shambo wasn’t impressed with her tribe. She complained that they were wasting time on yoga when the tribe had no water, no food, and no firewood.

Russell Sells Out Ashley

Back at Foa Foa, Russell told Ben that Ashley tried to get him voted off at the last Tribal Council in an attempt to eliminate Ashley next. Ashley reacted in confusion at the fact that Ben confronted her, saying that everyone brought his name up – not just her. Ashley confided in Natalie about what happened and Natalie denied saying anything to Ben.

Swimsuits and Treemail

Before the combined Reward and Immunity Challenge, both tribes received their swimsuits as part of their treemail.

Reward/ Immunity Challenge: Crate Idea

At the combined Reward/ Immunity Challenge, the tribes squared off in another physical battle. Two members of each tribe swam out to retrieve a crate. Before reaching the crate, they had to pass through a battle zone where a defender from the other tribe tried to slow them down. Once they had the crate back to mat, the next two went out. The tribes then stacked the four crates so that no colors repeated on any side. The first tribe to do so won Immunity, and Reward in the form of comfort items.

During the challenge, numerous physical confrontations occurred between the men and the women. After the swimming legs, Galu had a big lead on the puzzle. Foa Foa thought they had solved the puzzle, but missed one repeating color. In the end, Galu won their third-straight Immunity challenge.

Jeff then presented Galu’s chief, Russell Swan, with a decision between keeping the comfort items or choosing a tarp and some other functional items. Russell opted to keep the comfort in order to please the women of his tribe. Dave wasn’t happy with Russell’s decision. Russell also sent Shambo over to observe at Foa Foa.

As Foa Foa left the challenge, Ben warned that Ashley would be next to go since she tried to backstab him earlier.

Shambo Joins Foa Foa

After the challenge, Shambo joined the Foa Foa Tribe at camp where she expressed that she fits in better than at Galu. Mick commented that Foa Foa wants to adopt her. Shambo then read the clues she received to the Hidden Immunity Idol and began her search for it.

Comfort vs. Function at Galu

Galu relished in their victory, but some tribe members were still questioning Russell’s decision to pick the comfort items. John remarked that the tribe was still going to be uncomfortable even with a few pillows and towels, while Erik expressed that the tribe didn’t have a tarp and the comfort items would get soaked the first time it rained.

Foa Foa Prepares For Tribal Council

At Foa Foa, Jaison told Ashley that he’d quit the game if Ben stayed in any longer, but it was only an attempt to sway the tribe to vote out Ben. Mick and Russell negotiated terms and Russell agreed to send home Ben after Ashley. He even decided to show Mick the Hidden Immunity Idol in order to cement his alliance with Mick.

The next morning, Shambo showed the Foa Foa girls a few skills while the men discussed the benefits of keeping Ben over Ashley. Fearing a women’s alliance if Ashley stayed, Mick and Russell tried to convince Jaison to vote out Ashley first, but he still would not agree.

Foa Foa’s Tribal Council

At Tribal Council, Jaison expressed his desire to trade Ben for Shambo, and a heated argument ensued between the two men because Jaison was offended by Ben’s racial comments to Yasmin.

In a vote of 6-1, Ben’s comments came back to haunt him when he became the third person voted out of the Foa Foa Tribe.

Next Week on Survivor: Samoa:

In Episode 4 of Survivor: Samoa, Jaison expresses interest in leaving the game after a hard night of rainfall. At Galu, Erik tells Shambo that there might be a hidden Immunity Idol at Galu’s camp too, but injures himself while looking for it.
