Survivor on CBS - Episode 9A Summary of the Ninth Episode of the Gabon CastawaysNov 23, 2008 Nichole Richardson
In the ninth episode of Survivor, the castaways have been living in Africa 25 days and the remaining nine are battling it out. Sugar proves to be a formidable force.
At Kota, Kenny is left feeling satisfied that he's still in the game after a narrow miss. Bob is feeling insecure because he knows he's history (though he teaches Science he jokes) if Kota loses. Over at Fang, Charlie and Matty find tree mail hinting at a sling-shot competition. Tribal ChallengeAt the Tribal Challenge there's a huge reaction to Marcus' demise. Corinne is mad that Marcus was voted off, claiming he "didn't deserve to leave the game." To which Kenny responds, "But who does?" Corinne clarifies by stating she thought Marcus just deserved to "be here longer I guess." The Survivors compete for an intimate reward where they will visit a Gabonese village and witness a beautiful dance ceremony, have dinner, and spend the night. In addition choosing an opposite tribe member to go to Exile Island. The challenge is golf-esque and involves using a large sling-shot to aim and shoot a ball into a hole. The tribe with the least amount of shots taken wins the hole. Best two out of three wins. Kenny gets the first point for Kota followed by Matty for Fang and as Matty attempts to make the winning shot for Fang, he is distracted by Randy's tantrum (about the best way to make the shot), but still succeeds for a Fang win. After the win Randy kicks the dirt and throws a fit about how no one was listening to him. Even with Matty and Charlie trying to sooth him, he still whines. Bob is chosen for Exile Island to find the idol (that Sugar has already). Back at CampSince Bob was sent to Exile Island, Ken is the only man at Kota. He catches three fish and claims "Right now, I know for a fact I can win this game." At Exile, Bob realizes the immunity has been taken by another and decides to create his own using rock and tree resin that ends up looking amazingly authentic. Individual Immunity ChallengeBob returns home from EI in time to learn the tribes are now merged after 27 days and will participate in an individual immunity challenge. They are instructed to make a fire that burns through their rope above it and if they succeed will guarantee a one in eight shot at the one million dollar prize for winning the competition. Susie is the first to get a flame and Matty cuts himself. Sugar challenges Susie by her flame and Susie wins. On the way back to camp Randy says he's not going back with Crystal and warns "She'll be gone or I'll be gone." New Tribe TacticsRice, beans, pears, coffee, and canned food await as they come back from the challenge. Bob, Corinne, Randy, and Charlie are a solid alliance vs. Matty, Kenny, Susie, and Crystal...leaving Sugar as the swing-vote once again. Corinne attempts to sweet-talk Sugar by acting like her friend but later admits Sugar must buy it "cause she's a moron." Kenny wants revenge on Charlie for ruining his chance at the hidden immunity clue and makes a strategic move by lying to Matty, Kenny, Susie, and Crystal about Charlie "running the show;" thus causing them to strategize to break apart Corinne and Charlie. Ken then tries to sway Sugar to vote out Charlie, but she's skeptical because he lied about Ace in the past. Spurred by Kenny, the tribe decides their new name is Nobag-Gabon spelled backwards and design a new tribal flag. Tribal CouncilCrystal asks Randy why he has issues with her to which he responds, "You want me to make you a list?" He informs her that he thinks she's arrogant and when she and GC had power in the beginning, they "ran the tribe like it was a gang." Crystal makes no apologies for her forthrightness. Susie chooses to keep her individual immunity idol leaving Crystal and Charlie tied four votes to four votes at Council. Sugar makes the hefty decision to be the swing-vote against Charlie-therefore making him the 10th person voted out and second member of the jury. Stay tuned for the next episode re-cap.
