On June 1, 2009 I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! premiered. This season’s cast includes Heidi and Spencer Pratt, Frances and Angela of Frangela, Janice Dickinson, Torrie Wilson, Stephen Baldwin, Sanjaya Malakar, Patti Blagojevich, John Salley and Lou Diamond Phillips.
The Terrible Trek
The group was split in to teams before being dropped in the Costa Rican jungle. The red team was Janice, Heidi, Spencer, John and Patti. The yellow team was Stephen, Sanjaya, Torrie, Frances, Angela and Lou.
On the way to camp the red team hit a huge river. They began to cross it, and Patti got swept up with the current. She was carried pretty far down the rapid-moving river but was finally caught at the bottom where there was a lagoon.
The yellow team found a leader in Stephen early on. He was very motivating to the team, and he kept their spirits up while Frances was having trouble. He wasn’t sure she would make it, but he never showed his doubt.
I’m Too Rich and Too Famous
Anyone who had doubts about Heidi and Spencer making it through this show was starting to look pretty good when, after only a few hours at camp, the pair decided they wanted to leave. Heidi was breaking down, and she said it just wasn’t what she thought it would be.
Spencer called NBC Universal Chairman Ben Silverman and cursed the man out for putting him in this situation. He said he didn’t want to be a guinea pig, and he was too right and too famous to be hanging out with the supposed celebrities he had been stuck with.
The pair did eventually decide to stay, but that thought wouldn’t last for long.
The next morning Heidi and Spencer disappeared again. The group heard Spencer yelling at someone to get off of him, and they were convinced they were trying to escape.
While gone, the group divided up their stuff. When Spencer found out he completely freaked out on Angela and Torrie. He yelled in Angela’s face and accused Torrie of steroid use.
Later, Spencer took Torrie’s bag and hid it but not for long. She barely noticed it was gone before he returned it and apologized to the group. In the confessional he said his apology was fake, and he was staying because he didn’t want the non-celebrities to win.
Stick Bugs and Rats’ Tails – Yummy!
Before the first food challenge the teams were reassigned to men versus women teams.
For the challenge they competed one-on-one for chicken and fruit. The first team to finish five delicacies first won. The celebrities ate stick bugs, rats’ tails, cow intestine milkshakes and tarantulas.
Then men won thanks to Sanjaya inhaling an iguana’s tail.
Dickinson v. Diamond
Lou and Janice were nominated to compete for leader for week one. The challenge was who could hold their arms above their head the longest while they were attached to buckets full of slime.
It didn’t take long for Janice to ask Lou if he would give her special priveleges if she gave up. He said yes, and she dropped.
As leader Lou will always eat, and he gets to designate chores to everyone. Everyone except Heidi and Spencer volunteered.
Heidi and Spencer Sit Out
Everyone participated in the immunity challenge except Heidi and Spencer. We don’t know why.
The remaining celebrities were strapped head down on planks. Every few seconds an insect was released right by their heads.
Frangela, Janice and John were the first four celebrities out.
The episode ended there but will continue tomorrow at 8 p.m.
