So You Think You Can Dance Season PremiereSo You Think You Can Dance Season 6 Episode 1 Recap
The newest season of So You Think You Can Dance premiered with the first of several audition episodes to give the audience a quick glimpse at some of the newest dancers.
For the first time in the history of the show, So You Think You Can Dance will be shown during the fall rather than the summer, and that has raised the level of excitement for this season among fans. This is the sixth season of So You Think You Can Dance for Fox, and going to be the Fox answer to new programming for the fall. The fifth season of So You Think You Can Dance just ended though, so at the same time this new season brings excitement, it may lead to a little burn out with the sixth season premiering with little to no break in between. The So You Think You Can Dance Season Premiere The So You Think You Can Dance season premiere had a familiar feel to it, as it began with host Cat Deeley talking about how the season would work, and how so many contestants were excited to get their chance at an audition. So You Think You Can Dance held auditions in six cities for the upcoming season, with the first stop being Los Angeles, California. Calling it the dance capital of the world, viewers got a glimpse of the crowd as they rushed into the auditorium to begin dancing for the three judges. The three judges are all familiar faces to So You Think You Can Dance fans, and are Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, and Adam Shankman. The three judges all have a lot of power within the industry now, with Lythgoe being one of the people behind American Idol as well as this show. Mary Murphy is an expert in ballroom dancing, and Adam Shankman is an established producer in film. Together the three of them have been rocks for the reality competition show, and each brings their own flavor to the table. Murphy in particular brings a great excitement level to the show every time she comments on an audition or a performance. The goal for contestants this season was to get a ticket to Vegas, where the next round of the competition would be taking place. The auditions could end with a ticket, with a denial, or with a contestant being sent to a choreographed session where they could be taught some dance moves to try in a second audition. Host Cat Deeley let slip that 200 people would be making it to Vegas by the end of the audition episodes. The First So You Think You Can Dance Auditions For Season 6 The auditions in Los Angeles are already proving to be quite good, and a few of the first contestants really proved to be at the top of their game. There were several women who went with modern dance in their auditions, and they really wowed the judges, and there was one in particular that really blew them away. Mollee Gray took the stage with the judges only knowing that she was a back-up dancer on the first three High School Musical films, and she really knows her stuff. The energy that she portrayed could really take her far this season, and she could quickly become a fan favorite on the show. There were of course a few “duds” along the way too, including a really off the wall dancer who was trying to transform how people view dancers in film. His idea was to have the female characters portrayed by a male to see if that would change how the story was told. His interpretive dance did not go over well with the judges though, and he did not advance past the audition. Ryan Kasprzak and Bianca Revels Return to So You Think You Can Dance Two past contestants tried to get back into the good graces of the judges, as Ryan Kasprzak and Bianca Revels returned to take another chance at making the top 20 this season. They are both tap dancers, and performed brilliantly in their auditions. At one point, Lythgoe actually had Ryan come back out and “battle” Bianca in a tap face-off that was interesting to watch. When they were finished, both of them were given tickets to go to Vegas again. The Next Episode of So You Think You Can Dance The rest of the audition episode of So You Think You Can Dance will air on Wednesday’s at 8:00 P.M. until the show works its way to first Vegas, and then to the live shows where the top 20 will be revealed and America starts voting on their favorite dancers of the season.
