The top 18 So You Think You Can Dance Canada dancers took the stage and performed everything from dancehall to salsa. Sadly, one couple fell during their routine.
Last week's Tuesday night performance of So You Think You Can Dance Canada brought in 1.4 million viewers making it the top viewed show in Canada. The first cuts were made on Wednesday night when the judges eliminated Tatiana and Taylor. This week featured the top 18 dancers and special guest judge, Mary Murphy. So, who is in the lead at this early stage of the game? In an unofficial online SYTYCD poll found on the CTV Community site, over 300 fans voted and think Melanie Mah is the dancer who will win the Canada's Favourite Dancer title. Melanie has so far attained 37% of the vote while current dance partner Cody Bonnell came in second with 10% of the vote. But, with many weeks of dancing ahead, it's anybody's guess who will win. The following dance performance recaps may contain spoilers. Each couple's performance is reviewed and may contain comments from the judges. SYTYCD Top 18 Performance Recaps Before announcing which dance style they drew, the dancers started things off by commenting on unique traits of their dance partners. Everett & Tara-Jean: Tara-Jean thinks Everett is a weirdo (just like herself) who is always tapping. Everett commented on how superstitious Tara-Jean can be about everything. The contemporary and tap couple drew salsa and were choreographed by Tony & Melanie. The couple performed a spicy and energetic salsa which caused Mary to proclaim the pair on the hot tamale train. Tre found it arousing. Vincent & Amy: Amy talked about how Vincent's older sister would dance him in girl's clothes. Vincent exposed how shy Amy is with her dance and how she kept it from friends. The contemporary and ballroom couple drew contemporary and were choreographed by Blake McGrath. Vincent and Amy rebound this week with a powerful and emotional routine. Tre thought Amy advanced herself and Vincent demonstrated his ability to transform. Jean Marc was moved to tears. Cody & Melanie M.: Cody exposed how obsessive compulsive Melanie can be in planning her daily schedule, while Melanie laughed about a strange face that Cody makes. The contemporary and hip-hop couple drew krump and were choreographed by Lil "C". The couple came out hard hitting but Melanie appeared to outperform Cody, who seemed to miss the hard edge for which krump is known. Mary loved the routine but noted it wasn't extraordinary. Tre overlooked that Cody did not hit it as well as Melanie but liked it more that he showed his smooth, swagger instead. Emanuel & Kim: Emanuel talked about Kim's variety of childhood eyeglasses while Kim talked about Emanuel's massage stick that he uses to massage himself throughout the day. The hip-hop and ballet couple drew theater and were choreographed by Sean Cheesman. The routine featured many lifts and jumps which the couple executed flawlessly, but the dance seemed a bit flat. Mary found it powerful while Luther thought it showcased Emanuel's talents. Anthony & Corynne: Anthony talked of Corynne's constant giggling while she commented on the sound effects Anthony is always making.. The ballet and ballroom couple drew pasa doble and were choreographed by Tony and Melanie. A favorite dance of Anthony's, he and Corynne fell while running across the stage. Both dancers fell on the stage but bounced up quickly, a bit shaky for the rest of the routine. Anthony seemed angry while waiting for the judgement. Mary found it well-performed and Tre thought they recovered well. Danny & Natalie: Natalie told Canada that Danny is obsessed with candy. Danny learned that Natalie is really into marine biology. The crumper and contemporary couple drew jazz and were choreographed by Melissa Williams. The couple brought energy and gave the audience a well-danced, passionate performance. Mary wanted a bit more from Danny while Natalie amazed her. Daniel & Jayme: Jayme confesses that Daniel brushes his hair all the time, even though he has short hair. Daniel told the audience that Jayme is known as the barf-girl due to getting sick from nerves. The contemporary and hip-hop couple drew dancehall and were choreographed by Jaeblaze. The couple received screams for the wild rump shaking and entertaining performance. Luther thought the dancers committed to it and hit it hard. Nicholas & Jenna Lynn: Nicholas learned that all of Jenna Lynn's siblings names start with the letter 'J'. Jenna Lynn discovered that Nicholas was born weighing only 2 pounds. The jazz and b-boy couple drew hip-hop and were choreographed by Sho-Tyme. The couple offered up a solid performance. Tre thought Nicholas out-danced Jenna Lynn. Austin & Melanie B.: Austin discovered Melanie's interest in medicine and Melanie learned Austin was a child star of sorts. The contemporary couple, dancing together for the first time after last week's eliminations, drew smooth waltz and were choreographed by Danny Quilliam. Austin displayed his trademark spin and overall the dance seemed neither smooth nor interesting. Mary didn't find the dancing strong and Luther didn't feel Melanie danced as well as she could. SYTYCD Top 18 Audience Favourites Daniel and Jayme brought down the house with their dancehall rendition, as did Danny and Natalie with their jazz routine. And, Vincent and Amy recovered from last week's disappointing dance with an emotional contemporary piece which drew long applause from the audience. On the sad side of things, Anthony and Corynne both fell during their dance and may find themselves in the bottom set of couples this week. And, based on the final dance of the night, Austin and Melanie B. may have another tough week.
