Sierra Eliminated on SurvivorSurvivor: Tocantins, They Both Went Bananas (April 30, 2009)
Coach and Debbie tried to revive Timbira on Survivor. Also, Coach won his first immunity challenge, saving himself one more time.
On the April 30, 2009 episode of Survivor: Tocantins Stephen and J.T. continued to play the field, and the tension between Sierra and Coach fumed on. Bringing Back an Original TribeCoach and Debbie were obviously shocked after last week’s elimination of Tyson, but J.T. explained to them they weren’t told because no one wanted Coach and Debbie to have to go back on their word to Tyson. Debbie believed Stephen and J.T. when they said they wanted she and Coach to be part of the final four with them, but she wasn’t 100 percent sure they could be trusted. Instead, she decided she wanted to get the old Timbira tribe back together to out number the rest of the group. The Reward ChallengeThe reward challenge was a question and answer game. The questions were about the other members, such as “Who will squander the money the fastest?” and “Who would you trust with your life?” The players were asked to answer the questions with the name of the person they think got the most votes, and if they answered correctly they were allowed to hack at a portion of rope attached to a wooden figure that symbolized one of the other players. If that player’s wooden figure received three hacks they were out of the game. Sierra was the first person out, thanks to J.T. Debbie and Coach were out of the game after the third question. Next, Erinn and J.T. took each other out, leaving Stephen and Taj to battle for the prize. Stephen ended up winning, and he sent Erinn to Exile Island. He also chose J.T. and Taj to go to his reward with him. Mixing it UpAt their reward Stephen, J.T. and Taj discussed the possibility of sending Debbie home because she wouldn’t suspect it. At camp Debbie and Coach were trying to talk Sierra in to bringing back Timbira. Sierra, having just dodged elimination no thanks to Coach, wasn’t sure she wanted to be aligned with them. Later, Sierra told Stephen and J.T. about the conversation, and to prove her loyalty to them she brought it up in front of the group. Coach told an entirely different story, which had Sierra asking about Timbira. Debbie broke out in tears again, and Coach claimed he has never lied and will never lie. Immunity ChallengeThe immunity challenge had two parts. The first part had the players throwing a rope with an anchor attached to it in to a field, then trying to pull three bags of sand across a line. J.T., Coach and Debbie were the first to pull their bags across, and they moved on to the final round of the challenge. For the final round the three players had to move a ball through a table puzzle full of holes. If the ball fell in any hall besides the hole marked “Final,” the player had to start again. Coach had the lead most of the time, and he was the only who didn’t have to start over. He won immunity and took himself off the chopping block. Tribal CouncilAt tribal council the Sierra-Coach-Debbie argument broke out again. Coach quoted from the Bible and claimed he had forgiven Sierra for her lies. Sierra rolled her eyes, and the conversation turned to how the players decide between helping themselves and helping their alliance. It seemed to be Debbie would be going home, but Sierra was the one eliminated. It is possible she was eliminated because she caused too many problems, but she may have been eliminated because she was a strong competitor.
