Week 2 of The Biggest Loser is notorious for being one in which contestants lose little and sometimes even gain weight. This year that tradition is broken.

In previous seasons of The Biggest Loser, week two has been the toughest week for contestants. The contestant's bodies are in shock after the first week of extreme diet and exercise and typically the metabolism slows as it goes into survival mode. Contestants in past seasons have either gained weight in week two, or lost very little weight. Week two of season eight of The Biggest Loser was very different. A number of factors played into the contestants breaking this trend.

Working Together Instead of Competing

In week two of season 8 of The Biggest Loser contestants were working together to gain immunity for everyone. Host Allison Sweeney told all contestants in the shows beginning that no one would be going home that week if the entire group lost a total of 150 pounds during the weigh-in. The contestants were motivated to work together and help one another in workouts so that everyone would be able to stay at the campus for one more week.

Group Work in Challenge

The challenge for week two required contestants to walk in a line on balance beams placed in a large body of water. Prizes for getting across each balance beam included a weight advantage at the weigh-in and calls home. If one person fell in the water everyone lost. Contestants worked together in order to achieve success. Pounds were taken off of the 150 pound total and each contestant was able to call his or her family. The phone calls were emotional and touched the hearts of viewers.

Bob and Jillian Working Together

The Biggest Loser trainers Bob and Jillian worked with all of the contestants rather than on certain team members. This allowed contestants to benefit from both Bob and Jillian's training styles and allowed the trainers to get a deeper knowledge of the inner workings of the minds of team members. Bob and Jillian pushed the contestants as hard as they could and the contestants broke through barriers they never knew possible. This resulted in the contestants meeting the 150 pound challenge and breaking the week two curse.

Dan Gains Confidence and Becomes a Leader

Returning contestant Daniel is showing himself to be a stronger and much more confidant young man this season. Not only is he working hard at his own weight loss goals he is motivating other contestants to push beyond what they consider their own limits. Dan has become a leader among the contestants and viewers cannot help but to hope for his success.

Season 8 of The Biggest Loser is proving to be one full of twists and surprises. There is no doubt viewers will continue returning to the show week after week.
