Pocketbook Monologues, Independence Parties, & a Really Big Portrait

Lisa and Kandi perform in the Pocketbook Monologues, Sha-ray throws an Independence Party, & Nene argues with Kim. Just another day in the life of an Atlanta housewife.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Season 2 drones on with another tame episode. Perhaps this extra long season is just too long? Hopefully Bravo has all the great drama saved up for the final few episodes.

Now, for the highlights of Episode 9…

Kim Gives Poppa a Second Chance

Fresh off her fall in Episode 8, Kim is drinking wine and telling Cori all about her reunion with Big Poppa, her elusive boyfriend/bank account. Kim tells Cori that Poppa surprised her with an all expenses paid trip to the Bahamas for her and her daughters.

Kim still loves him and per Cori’s expert advice, decides to give him a second chance, but it’s not just for the money. Riiiight, but the money is enough to wash away the sting of betrayal. It has been hard for Kim. She has had to live on a limited budget; you know shop and act like the bill’s never gonna come. Who wants to guess that “job” she entertained the thought of will now be put on the back burner?

Pocketbook Monologues

Kandi and Lisa are taking part in the African American version of the Vagina Monologues, which is called The Pocketbook Monologues. They each have a reading to do, but first must go to the practice. Lisa runs through her reading, and she is obviously nervous. The director directs Lisa to slow down, but Lisa doesn’t agree. Taking constructive criticism does not seem to be these ladies’ strong suit.

Kandi does a reading about a woman who was molested by her step father and eventually became a prostitute with AIDS. Before doing her reading, Kandi talked with the camera about her acting background and how she actually wanted to be an actor, but her singing career took off. She does the monologue and blows the director away. Kandi really shows her talent in this segment.

The night of the show isn’t much different than the practice. Lisa is extremely nervous and does a decent job. Kandi is also nervous, but more composed. Again, her performance is impressive. Her mom, fiancée, and family are all delighted by Kandi’s performance.

That’s One Giant Portrait

Some things are meant to shock the viewers of The Real Housewives, and some are meant to awe. Well, Sha-Ray’s idea to have a gigantic portrait of herself painted by the artist Rossin was probably meant to irritate the viewers. There is nothing worse than someone who thinks it’s an independent move to have a giant photograph or portrait of themselves in their houses. This whole thing just fits Sha-Ray and her personality.

So, she is an independent woman and wants to debut her brand new picture at her long awaited Independence Party. Rossin acts thrilled, but is visibly not thrilled. He goes along with it because the publicity is not to be overlooked.

The Independence Party

Next up is Sha-Ray’s independence party. This is the party to celebrate the big divorce and the fact that Sha-Ray is making it on her own; with her two kids and her settlement check.

All the ladies arrive in a strange assortment of style. Kim is on crutches and wearing ripped jeans, NeNe’s dress is falling off of her, and what was Lisa wearing? Anyway, NeNe finally confronts Kim about the song they were supposed to record together. After her successful recording performance in Episode 8, Kim decided that she wants to sing “Don’t Be Tardy for the Party” by herself. She has yet to tell NeNe this news. What better time than Sha-Ray’s big night?

NeNe is visibly upset and jealous, but tries to act like she does not care. Actually, she acts pretty crappy towards Kim, and then towards Kandi. It was uncomfortable to watch NeNe bully everyone. To end the arguing, Kandi walks away. She is upset with herself for losing her cool and NeNe is still inside surrounded by a group of party attendees. One anonymous woman tells NeNe that it is all ok and “You are writing a book! You are writing a book!” As NeNe just shakes her head and smiles.

What does NeNe “writing” a book have to do with anything? The disconnect is unreal!

Of course, Sha-Ray’s bestie, Tania, isn’t happy because this night is about Sha-Ray! Sha-Ray and Tania try so hard the entire night to make everyone focus on Sha-Ray and it is sad to watch.

Despite the arguing between the Housewives, the party is pretty quiet. Sha-Ray debuts her portrait, which is well done, an excellent job by Rossin; however the entire idea of it is ridiculous. The looks on NeNe, Kandi, and Lisa’s faces were classic. Apparently the ego that is Sha-Ray impresses no one.

Until next week- Sha-Ray travels to New York to visit the sweat shop that is making the samples for her clothing line….and it’s Kim and Kandi’s birthday party! Will Big Poppa finally show his face?
