Top Three Return Home to Design Bryant Park Collections S06E13

Last week, the judges narrowed the competition from five designers to the remaining three who will compete at Bryant Park during New York Fashion Week. With Christopher and Gordana eliminated, the final three consisted of Althea, Irina, and Carol Hannah.
Each designer was given $9,000 to complete a 12-piece collection to show at Bryant Park. With money in hand and no love lost, the women said their goodbyes and returned home to begin work.
Tim Gunn Visits Each Designer at Her Home
Tim begins by visiting Carol Hannah outside New York City at her friends home. After leaving Project Runway to create her collection, Carol Hannah decided that moving to New York would give her the focus she needed.
Carol Hannah showed Tim her designs inspired by an evening visit to a university campus. She took inspiration from the twilight colors and used shades of violets and grays. Tim seemed impressed with her work and offered advice on editing a few pieces.
Her family then put Tim to work rolling biscuits for their southern dinner. Tim Gunn in his suit, a frilly flowery apron, rolling biscuits on the kitchen counter. He looked rather out of place.
Tim next when to New York City where he met Irina at her apartment. Her collection came from her love of Coney Island. She displayed hand-knitted pieces and her continued passion for fur. On several pieces, she had images of Coney Island imprinted on her fabric. Tim enjoyed elements of her work but gave her stern advice on finishing the collection.
Finally, Tim ended up in Dayton, Ohio to visit with Althea. Her collection looked the least interesting so far and is based on her interest in female science-fiction movie characters. She used the play on shapes and forms to build her collection.
Tim liked her hand-knitted piece but found other pieces too heavy and matronly. He warned her to keep her eyes on making the collection youthful.
After his visits had finished, he made a phone call to Irina and informed her that the producers and lawyers discovered she could not use images of Coney Island in her pieces. Due to this, she had to rework her designs.
Top Three Designers Althea, Carol Hannah, and Irina Meet in New York
The designers returned to New York with their collections. The first to meet at the hotel were Irina and Althea who had left on bad terms when Irina accused Althea of stealing her designs. After a few awkward moments, the two began casual conversation. Tim stopped by to inform them that Carol Hannah had taken ill and would be delayed by a day or two.
The next day the designers headed off to the work room and Carol Hannah, still tired and not feeling well, showed up to work on her collection. Irina's eyebrows raised when she saw Althea's hand-knit pieces. Irina then told Althea that she copied her, as though she had somehow gave Althea inspiration. Apparently, Irina owns the patent on knitting.
Tim showed up to tour the collections and told Althea to work on a few matronly pieces. Tim worried that a piece or two of Carol Hannah's collection might need additional thought. Irina exhibited stress for the first time and Tim commented that her entire collection was black.
Model Casting and Visit from Nina Garcia and Michael Kors
Model casting happened quickly and without any conflict. Each designer was happy with the models they selected. When the designers returned to the work room, they were surprised with a visit from Nina Garcia and Michael Kors.
Nina told the designers to take out any looks which seemed like designs they had seen before. She stressed that the collection should be unique and represent them as designers. Michael gave advice on how to order their collections to create surprise for the audience.
One Final Surprise from Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn
Heidi and Tim came to the work room to deliver one last challenge. Each designer would need to create a thirteenth piece for their collection. To assist them, their muse model would cast the thirteenth model for them. Also, former contestants would assist with sewing. After drawing names, Althea was paired with Logan, Irina with Gordana, and Carol Hannah with Christopher.
Previews from next week show Carol Hannah taking a turn for the worst as her sickness returns. She is ill and may not be able to compete at Bryant Park. Althea and Irina have the same ideas about model make-up which sparks new debate over stealing ideas.
