Rachel Booted Off X-Factor as Show Finds Final 5Dannii Minogue Down to Her Last Act as Judges Vote to Save JLS
Soul Singer Rachel Hylton has been voted out of The X-Factor as the UK reality TV show reaches its final five contestants; JLS, Ruth, Diana, Alexandra and Eoghan.
The mum-of-five performed below par in her rendition of 'Rule The World', a song that her mentor Dannii Minogue allegedly 'stole' from her rival judge Louis Walsh, and found herself in the bottom two with JLS, after the pair garnered the least votes from the audience. In the showdown, she performed 'I'm Not Leaving' and put in a stunning effort, but not enough to save her from the axe. Offered another chance in her place were Louis' boyband JLS, who performed a contemporary version of 'Stand By Me' that transitioned into Sean Kingston's 'Beautiful Girls' and ended with a cringe-worthy 'stand by JLS' line. Louis, Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell all voted to keep them in the competition, with only Dannii voting for her act Rachel. Take That Week On The X-FactorAn excitable Dermot O'Leary began the show by announcing that it was Take That week on The X-Factor and that the boys themselves would be performing live. They did just that, opening the show with a spectacular rendition of their new single 'Greatest Day' and finding the time for a quick plug of their latest tour. It was also revealed that lead singers Gary Barlow and Mark Owen had been helping the contestants with their song choices this week. Cheryl Cole, wearing earrings resembling ice cubes, announced her first act and Alexandra Burke stepped up to perform 'Relight My Fire'. After a great vocal performance, the judges were unanimous in their praise and she surely must be in with a good chance to win this competition. Next up was Spanish senorita Ruth, who serenaded the audience with lesser-known Take That tune 'Love Ain't Here Anymore'. Well, she didn't exactly serenade them, she belted it out, but it sounded good so what the hey. Did I mention that she's Spanish by the way? Yes...Oh well. Dannii and Louis Argue Over Song ChoiceJLS stepped up the plate next, revealing that they had only had 24 hours to prepare their version of 'A Million Love Songs' and were a little nervous. They pulled it out of the bag though and received some good comments only for Louis to spoil the moment by arguing with Dannii about her nicking his song choice. The pair squabbled for a while, only for Dermot to break them up. Cue commercial break. And we're back. Your turn Dannii. Oh wait, Dannii's in tears. She can't speak. Who will save the day? Oh look it’s that knight in shining armour Louis Walsh mumbling the name 'Rachel Hylton' who gamely attempts (and absolutely murders) 'Rule The World'. The judges all love it, but what do they know? Anyway, Louis and Dannii make up after the Aussie receives a kiss on the cheek from her Irish charmer and professionally waits for the camera to pan away before wiping it off (may or may not have happened). Diana Sings 'Patience' On The X-Factor'The gorgeous Diana Vickers (copyright Cheryl Cole) waves her hand around rhythmically about during a performance of 'Patience' in which her voice sounds increasingly like somebody strangling a cat. Although in a good way, if that is possible to imagine. It's hard to work out why it works, but somehow it just does. She gets some good feedback. Next up: her alleged flame Eoghan, or 'Eggnog' as the banners seem to say. The irritating kid with the crazy hair closes the show with 'Never Forget' and, much as I hate to admit it, he is superb. Despite cheating a turning up the backing singers to disguise the fact that he couldn't reach the high note, he blows the judges and audience away. Louis tells him that he is "like Fed-Ex, because you always deliver" but it's OK because nobody cares what Louis thinks as he is, quite clearly, a moron. Rachel Voted Off The X-Factor After Showdown With JLSOnto the results show and two X-Factor rejects, Same Difference and Rhydian Roberts, last year's runner-up turn up to kill some programming time. The former are quite good, although clearly miming, and the latter I hate so much that I had to turn over to Match of the Day so can't write objectively about. Eventually moving on, Dermot reveals that, in no particular order, Ruth, Diana, Eoghan and Alexandra are through to the next week. Eoghan behaves like a excited schoolboy, (oh wait...) jumping around the room in front of an embarrassed Simon Cowell. JLS and Rachel in the showdown. The two perform their songs and Rachel is voted off. Fair play to her, she takes it with good grace and dignity, unlike others (I'm looking at you Scott) and thanks everyone for the experience. And that was that. Onto next week now, where it's Britney Spears week and the part-time loony herself will be on the show.
