Top 15 Recap Project Runway 6 Episode 2Recap S06E02 of Los Angeles Season Six on Lifetime
Another challenging week for the Project Runway designers, as Heidi Klum announced a special guest who brought a unique challenge to episode 2.
Fresh from completing the red carpet challenge last week, the remaining fifteen Project Runway designers returned this week relieved and confident. Mitchell narrowly escaped elimination and approached this week with greater determination. Although this week's challenge presented a new experience for many designers, everyone rose to the challenge and offered a variety of unique silhouettes. Christopher remained calm throughout the challenge as he entered this week with immunity. Unlike prior seasons though, he was not given the opportunity to select a new model. The following Project Runway recap contains spoilers and will note the winner, as well as who was eliminated in this episode. Project Runway Top 15 Episode 2 Recap: The Second Challenge Heidi teased the designers by informing them the second challenge would require creating a look for a fashion model who is also an actress. A few wondered if the design would be for Heidi, but then she revealed it would be for Rebecca Romijn, an expectant mother having twins. The challenge was to create a fashionable, chic look for Rebecca. The look was to have a beautiful silhouette for an occasion of the designer's choice, from casual lunch to board room meeting. The designers returned to their design tables to find pregnancy pillows awaiting them. The pillows were for placing on the dress forms, and ultimately on their models. Shirin created a strategy that would focus on a designing a coat and dress ensemble, since she thought most designers would design dresses only. Malvin decided to risk a fertility look bordering on costume while Mitchell wanted to play it safe after his issues last week. Louise feared her look approached being a nightgown and reworked it based on Tim's feedback. Mitchell told Ra'mon that his dress looked like a bowling ball which sent Ra'mon into mild hysterics. Surprisingly, Johnny survived this week without any dramatic outbreaks. The designers worked until midnight before returning to their apartment for sleep. The design integrity showed the following day as the models tried on the designs. Mitchell's shorts puckered and buckled while others struggled with belly and bust proportions. Needles broke and scissors disappeared in the final minutes. Project Runway Top 15 Episode 2 Recap: Top Three Selected Michael Kors could not attend the runway show and was replaced by fashion designer Monique Lhuillier. Ironically, each of the all-female panel had experienced pregnancy and warned the designers to expect critical judging. An array of gowns, dresses, and casual outfits walked down the runway as the judges remained expressionless. In the end, Heidi called Louise, Mitchell, Althea, Malvin, Shirin, Ra'mon forward and allowed the others designers to safely leave the runway. The six called forward represented the best and worst designs. Louise explained the pleated front of her dress which would allow for future growth. Rebecca found it lingerie-like but didn't think this was a concern. Rebecca found the design thoughtful and well-excuted, perfect for a dinner date. Althea designed an evening look in comfortable jersey fabric. Monique found the tailoring and detailing perfect and Heidi agreed it was beautiful, very elegant. Shirin focused on comfort in her dress and coat ensemble. She gave attention to detail by creating special handwork below the bust and lined the coat with patterned fabric. Everyone found the garments perfectly constructed and unique in concept. Clearly, the most wearable. Project Runway Top 15 Episode 2 Recap: Bottom Three Selected Ra'mon created a cocktail dress in purple which Monique found too busy and sloppy. Everyone agreed that the striped pattern highlighted the pregnancy bump instead on complementing it. Rebecca thought it looked like a bowling ball bag. Mitchell created a casual look but Heidi found it too easy and Nina called it a mess. The t-shirt was too tight and the shorts were too short. Once again, Mitchell offered up excuses, noting he had never sewn in a pregnancy band to shorts. Rebecca didn't think that it was poorly executed. Malvin created a mother hen and egg concept, a casual look with a touch of sophistication. Nina found beautiful details but found it looked like a sling. He wrangled with his concept and admitted that maybe he went too far. Project Runway Winner Announced & Final Two Selected: Auf Wiedersehen The judges narrowed the field once again by sparing Louise, Althea, and Ra'mon while Shirin was announced the challenge winner. Malvin and Mitchell were in the bottom two. Heidi commented on Malvin's chicken and egg look as, "Just too bizarre." Heidi then informed Mitchell, "The sloppiness of your sewing and presentation were basically not acceptable." Heidi announced that Malvin would be leaving. And, Heidi gave Mitchell a stern warning on her expectations. Malvin left teary-eyed and felt his concept was just too ahead of his time. He said his goodbyes and stated, "One of the best thing about this experience is that I've learned how strongly I am grounded as a designer, a philosopher, and as a person."
