TLC’s new reality show, Miss America Reality Check, continued with red carpet week. Throughout this episode, a digital clock in the upper corner of the television screen counted down the minutes to the grand finale of the series, Miss America Live, which will take place in Las Vegas.
Although the advisory board wasn’t judging vocal ability in this anthem lyric challenge, how well each girl performed under pressure was noted. One member from each team stepped forward to sing the national anthem, one line at a time. The Red team won the challenge when Miss South Dakota finished out the anthem, America the Beautiful, lyrics intact.
Host Michael Urie said that most of the contestants had embraced the revamping of Miss America, revealing they are real women with incredible personalities who are much more interesting and complicated than their pageant stereotypes.
Hollywood stylists, who had experience dressing celebrities for the red carpet, arrived with designer dresses in tow for the girls to try on and select for wearing on the red carpet. Mark, Jeanne and Dina circulated while the designers provided advice about walking and posing on the red carpet.
Michael told the contestants that the advisors would be acting like reporters on the red carpet, evaluating their poise under pressure and asking them pageant-style questions. Each contestant was introduced as she entered the red carpet to a flurry of flash bulbs.
Michael told the girls that because they had all worked so hard to change, none of them would be placed in the bottom three. The girls returned to the estate for dinner and dessert as they gossiped about who they felt should win.
The advisory board met to discuss the contestants. Mark was surprised that they had all really listened to the advisory board’s advice over the last few weeks, although he admitted that Miss Rhode Island was a disappointment during her red carpet interview. Jeanne said she loved Miss Michigan. Dina said that Miss Florida was shining. Mark said he hadn’t noticed Miss New Mexico until she hit the red carpet.
Michael expressed his best wishes for the contestants. He asked ten girls to step forward.
The finalists were:
The winners of the grand prize were Miss Washington, Miss Indiana and an especially shocked Miss New Mexico, who each took home a $10,000 scholarship and a shopping spree at Intution.
