On the June 29, 2009 episode of The Bachelorette, Week 7 (Season 5), Jillian met the bachelors’ families in their hometowns.
Reid’s, Michael’s Hometowns
At Reid’s house Jillian told Reid’s mother Reid has opened up a lot more lately and the two are starting to connect. Rhonda thought Jillian was adorable, and Jillian really liked Rhonda. Reid’s stepbrothers said they think Reid is finally ready for marriage. They know Reid is always looking for the approval of his family, but his father told him not to worry what everyone else thinks.
Reid’s family was surprised to see how affectionate Reid was with Jillian. Later, Jillian said she fell hard for Reid and his family on their date.
At Michael’s house Michael and his twin brother Steve switched places so Michael could find out how Jillian really felt about him. It took two seconds for Jillian to figure out it was Michael, not Steve.
Michael’s parents were really impressed with Jillian and how well she fit with the family. His father could see Michael was falling hard, and Michael’s mother said she couldn’t believe how much her son lights up talking about Jillian.
Jillian and Steve talked about Michael’s age. Steve said Michael and him have always wanted to marry young so they could spend time alone before children. Jillian felt a lot better about Michael’s age after that.
Kiptyn’s, Jesse’s Hometowns
At Kiptyn’s house Jillian was tested on her knowledge of food and fine wine because that is important to them. Jillian passed but was worried she wouldn’t fit in.
Kiptyn’s mom grilled Jillian about her plan to keep Kiptyn happy. She seemed intense but said she would love to have Jillian as a daughter in-law. She also said she sees a spark in Kiptyn she hasn’t seen before. Kiptyn told his sister Jillian is the type of person he could marry but he isn’t ready to propose in one month.
Jesse took Jillian to his family’s winery. Jesse’s brother was very skeptical about the situation, and he was shocked to hear his brother was ready to settle down.
Jesse’s mother wasn’t surprised Jesse has been standoffish but said he will open up. Jesse’s brother said Jillian wasn’t the closest of past girlfriends to crack his shell.
Jake the Protector
Wes introduced Jillian to his band first. Wes told the camera the ultimate goal is not the girl but letting America hear his new CD. Jillian lit up when Wes played and said she could be very happy spending the rest of her life with him. Wes told Jillian again he is there only for her.
Jake arrived in Austin not for a rose but to tell Jillian the truth about Wes. Jillian went silent hearing about Wes’ girlfriend, Laurel. She was angry and heartbroken.
Jake left before Wes showed up. Wes was very defensive when Jillian asked if there was anything he needed to tell her. Jillian told Wes about Jake’s visit, and Wes said he is just friends with Laurel. Jake came to clear things up, but Wes wouldn’t back down.
Eventually, the couple visited Wes’ family. Jillian and Wes were open about their reason for being late. The family said Jake must have been jealous, and Wes’ mom said Wes is straight forward. Jillian felt Wes was truthful after their dinner.
Rose Ceremony
Before elimination Ed showed up to ask for another chance. Jillian needed time to think so she invited Ed to the ceremony. The men were shocked to see Ed.
Jillian sent Michael and Jesse home.
