Melissa Rycroft Nails Perfect Score on DWTSDancing with the Stars, 809
Ty Murray fell down the totem pole on Dancing with the Stars. Also, Lil' Kim brought back her spark, and Gilles showed off his self indulgent side.
On the May 4, 2009 episode of Dancing with the Stars, 809, the couples performed on their first double-dance night. The judges were more technical with their comments this week, but most of the performers received excellent reviews. The First PerformanceShawn Johnson and Mark – Quickstep – The dance was fun, and the crowd gave a standing ovation. Len said he was happy to finally see Shawn’s personality, but the couple broke the hold too much. Carrie Ann and Bruno also loved the dance but said they had to cut a point because of the broken hold. Score – 27 Ty Murray and Chelsie – Argentine Tango – The couple was very in sync, and Ty had a great tango expression. Bruno told him he needed to glide on the floor more. Carrie Ann told Ty he was a little stiff. Len said Ty, “captured the flavor and the essence of the dance.” Score – 25 Lil’ Kim and Derek – Waltz – Lil’ Kim made the waltz look very easy. Carrie Ann was very nit-picky about some missed steps and half-extended arms. Len said he was shocked at the great quality. Bruno said Lil’ Kim didn’t seem as comfortable this week as usual. Score – 25 Gilles Marini and Cheryl – Fox Trot – Gilles gave the word suave a new definition with this performance. Len said the dance was entertaining, but Gilles needs to stretch more. Bruno said the performance was in its own class. Carrie Ann said Len was crazy, and Gilles and Cheryl are headed in to the semi-finals. Score – 29 Melissa Rycroft and Tony – Viennese Waltz – Melissa was beautiful, and at times she looked like she was floating on air. Bruno called Melissa a vision but thought the ballet moves may have been too much. Carrie Ann wanted Melissa to work on her torque and fluidity. Len loved it and thought Melissa was fantastic. Score – 27 The Second PerformanceShawn Johnson and Mark – Paso Doble – This was a much better performance, but Shawn could have mixed up her expressions a little instead of sticking with one. Carrie Ann said Shawn nailed it. Len liked the footwork, but he didn’t find the dance exciting. Bruno almost knocked Len out showing how great Shawn did. Score – 29 Ty Murray and Chelsie – Rumba – The couple had a few bumps in the road, but Ty made the dance his own with a sexy dance for his wife, Jewell, at the end. Len said it was sweet but didn’t like it. Bruno and Carrie Ann said they would love to score him on improvement because he just isn’t cutting it in the talent department. Score – 21 Lil’ Kim and Derek – Salsa – Lil’ Kim and Derek had some fantastic moves to match Lil’ Kim’s fantastic shake. Bruno sang Flo Rida Right Round to prove his love for Lil’ Kim’s performance. Carrie Ann said it was a little floppy, but she loved it, and Len agreed. Score – 27 Gilles Marini and Cheryl – Rumba – This performance really got the crowd going, and everyone was probably blushing from the heat between Gilles and Cheryl. Carrie Ann thought Gilles solo was odd and self indulgent. Len said the dance looked fantastic, but he didn’t like the rolling on the floor. Bruno thought the dance was very good. Score – 27 Melissa Rycroft and Tony – Samba – This dance was amazing, but you can tell Melissa doesn’t quite have the 100 percent to give she had before. Len said Melissa should 100 percent be here next week. Bruno thought Melissa’s samba was beautifully executed. Carrie Ann called the dance flawless. Score – 30
