This week the teams traveled to Thailand where they had to find a giant gorilla, pack a shipping boat and drive a rickshaw to pass this leg of the journey.
The Amazing Race, “Gorilla? Gorilla?? Gorilla???”
Tammy and Victor were the first team to depart because they were the first to arrive at the last pit stop. Their clue told them to travel Phuket, Thailand and find a statue of a gorilla, which is located in the Phuket Zoo. The clue does not tell the teams the statue is in the zoo.
Mel and Mike leave second and are followed by Kisha and Jen, Margie and Luke, Jaime and Cara and Mark and Michael. Everyone seemed very excited to go to Thailand.
Everyone but Jaime and Cara used a travel agency, but all of the teams were on the same flight, which arrived in Phuket at 8:50 a.m.
Mark and Michael were last, but they were the first to grab a cab once out of the airport. When none of the cab drivers could tell the teams where the gorilla statue is located, the teams started asking people on the street. Mark and Michael and Jaime and Cara were the first to learn it was at the zoo, but Margie and Luke and Kisha and Jen were not far behind. Mel and Mike felt confident that the gorilla was at a nearby beach, so they went there.
Jaime and Cara were the first to find the clue, which told them to take a picture with a large tiger and complete a common elephant show. Mark and Michael found the clue second, but they found the tiger first. Jaime and Cara, Kisha and Jen, Tammy and Victor and Margie and Luke followed. The teams participated in the elephant show in the same order.
Next the teams needed to go to the oldest herb shop in Phuket. There they would have to guess which drawer the clue was in and keep trying until they found it.
At the beach Mel and Mike were being told by people the statue was at the zoo, but they were so convinced it was at the beach they wouldn’t listen. Finally, they listened and were headed to the zoo.
Jaime and Cara and Mark and Michael arrived at the herb shop at the same time. Kisha and Jen arrived not long after, and there was a lot of shouting. Mark and Michael found the clue first, and one had found another clue before Tammy and Victor and Margie and Luke arrived.
Next the teams either had to prepare a fishing ship’s water barrels for a 10-day trip or travel two miles on a rickshaw. Mark and Michael chose the rickshaws. Kisha and Jen chose the 100 barrels task. Margie and Luke chose the rickshaw. Tammy and Victor chose the rickshaw. Jaime and Cara were extremely frustrated having been the first ones there, but they did eventually find the clue. They chose 100 barrels. When Mel and Mike arrived they chose 100 barrels.
After completing their challenge the teams headed to Wat Thep Nimit Temple. Mark and Michael arrived first but got two 30 minute penalties for hiring help to find the pit stop and intentionally tampering with the rickshaw tire pumps. Tammy and Victor were then named team number one. Jaime and Cara were second. Mark and Michael were third. Margie and Luke were fourth, but Margie fated from dehydration. She was OK and refused the ambulance. Kisha and Jen were fourth. Mel and Mike were last and eliminated.
