Laura Booted Off From The X FactorCheryl's Star is Sent Home After a Sing-Off with Spanish Ruth
Laura White is the latest contestant to be voted off The X Factor, after losing three votes to two in the judges decision to Spanish sensation Ruth Lorenzo.
The 21-year-old from Bolton sang 'Endless Love' on Mariah Carey night, but her performance was not enough to save her from having to sing again, along with Ruth. She chose 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow', but it was not enough to save her from the chop as Simon Cowell, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh all chose to end her X Factor career. Ruth sang 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door' and produced a typically powerful performance that proved to be enough to win the opportunity perform again next week. Both girls had produced impressive efforts for their showdown and the judges admitted they found it difficult to choose between the two, but eventually sent home Laura. As the decision was read, a clearly shaken Ruth embraced her opponent and wept as she told her "I'm sorry." Mariah Carey week on The X FactorAll the contestants this week were required to sing Mariah Carey songs, as part of a special episode in which the singer herself opened the show with her new single 'I Stay In Love' and kicked off the results show with a rendition of 'Hero' in which the contestants acted as backing singers for the song that they too have recently released and has hit the number one spot in the UK. The Northern Irish 16-year-old Eoghan Quinn opened the show with the classic 'Anytime You Need A Friend' and received praise for his performance from the judges, except Louis Walsh, who took the opportunity to criticize the youngster's hair. Ruth followed with a rendition of 'My All' in a revealing outfit that had Simon Cowell gasping for more. Rachel rejects Dannii Minogue's advice and chooses own songUp next was Rachel, who revealed that she had decided to dispel with her judge's opinion and control her own performance this week. Singing 'Against All Odds' she struggled to keep her performance in tune and looked to be in danger of finishing in the bottom two. Surprisingly, the judges praised her bravery and seemed to overlook her obvious mistakes as she succumbed to her emotions, crying as she was interviewed by presenter Dermot O'Leary. Diana unable to perform due to severe throat problemsNext up was Diana Vickers, but the 17-year-old had been suffering with Laryngitis and was unable to sing, an X Factor first. Fortunately, she was given a pass into the next round and should be able to perform next week. Louis' final act JLS stepped up next and produced a fantastic rendition of 'One Sweet Day', but divided opinion of the judges. Cheryl Cole told the boys not to listen to Louis, their mentor, as he would try to turn them into Westlife. However, the other judges seemed to side with Louis Walsh, questioning Cheryl's reasoning. Crooner Daniel Evans was the penultimate act and produced his best performance to date, with a steady rendition of 'Open Arms' winning rare praise from Simon, who described it as 'not bad.' Closing the show was Alexandra, who belted out the performance of the night, singing 'Without You' and earning the best comments of the night from the judges. Laura voted off The X FactorAfter performing 'Hero' with Mariah Carey on the results show, the contestants were told that Ruth and Laura had received the fewest votes. After performing again for the live studio audience, the judges chose to send home Laura, leaving Ruth Lorenzo to fight another day in the competition.
