Kate called their position “a fork in the road.” She said she does not hate him, but she is tired of constantly smiling on the outside and crying on the inside. Jon said he does not hate Kate, but he needs to do what is best for him and his children. The Official AnnouncementJon was the first to admit the couple is separating. He said it is no longer OK for them to be together because they can not be nice in front of their kids but they no longer want to argue in front of the kids. Kate is not happy about the idea, but she understands it needs to be done. The children will stay in the house with Kate, but it sounds like Jon will be moving out. Kate said she knows this will be hard on their children, but it is important they do this for them. Jon said he hasn’t been around the house that much in the past few months because he was preparing for the future. According to Jon and Kate, there are no plans to stop filming. The only change will be Jon and Kate will be filmed with their children separately. Kate said she is most worried about being labeled a failure. She also hates the ideas of her children being able to use the sentence, “My parents divorced when I was…” Jon seemed a lot more excited about and open to the separation. Jon was excited to start a new chapter in his life, whereas Kate was in tears during the whole interview.
