On the July 23, 2009 episode of So You Think You Can Dance, 2 of 8 Voted Off, the show narrowed itself down to its top six dancers. Number 100Tonight the show was celebrating its 100th episode. Mia Michaels, this week’s guest judge, said that her favorite part of the last 100 episodes has been seeing former competitors come back and choreograph, and she is especially proud of those who have made a life for themselves as dancers. Nigel shared a phone call he recently had with Olivia Newton-John. She said the routine Tyce Diorio choreographed the night before said more about breast cancer than anyone could say in words. To celebrate the 100th episode the audience was taken on a journey back through some of the best moments from the last 100 episodes. The Bottom FourThe women were brought out first. Kayla was the first dancer named to the bottom two, and Janette was the second. Neither dancer looked surprised by the news, but Jeanine looked surprised that she wasn’t a part of the bottom four. The men were brought to the stage after season three’s Hawk and Jaime performed their Emmy-winning performance. Cat read off Ade and Jason’s comments before announcing which of them was in the bottom four. She did the same thing with Evan and Brandon. Jason and Brandon were the second half of the bottom four. After the announcement Travis and Heidi performed the Bench Routine from season two. Last Chance SolosKayla’s performance was soft, but her leaps were gorgeous. She just looks like she is floating on air. Jason’s performance was a hit with the crowd. They seemed to love his leaps and his quick movements. This wasn’t one of Janette’s best performances. She lacked energy, and her face looked disappointed through the whole thing. Brandon’s performance was a lot of fun to watch, and he had a ton of energy, especially during his flips. After the solos several former dancers were brought back to perform the Ramalama (Bang Bang) performance. Janette and Jason were sent home. Nigel said he was hoping Janette would win the competition, and the loss of her ruined his 100th episode celebration. Katie Holmes Gives BackKatie Holmes was the night’s special guest on behalf of the Dizzy Feet Foundation. She sang and danced to the song Get Happy and was quite good. It is possible she was lip synching, but her energy was so high it really didn’t matter. She really put on a beautiful and fun performance.
