Sixteen chefs come face-to-face with the harsh tongue of Chef Ramsay, and the grueling challenges presented in Hell's Kitchen.

The sixteen chefs of Hell's Kitchen Season 6 arrive at the restaurant which will serve as their home for the next several weeks. They are greeted by Belgian Maitre'd Jean-Philippe, who is anxiously awaiting their arrival.

Golden Rules of Hell's Kitchen

Jean-Philippe informs the new arrivals that inside the doors awaits a series of "Golden Rules". The group enters to find three videos from former Hell's Kitchen contestants, each establishing one rule of Hell's Kitchen. Bonnie from Season 3 tells the chefs to make sure their stove is turned on before trying to cook; Colleen from Season 5 imparts the wisdom of always tasting the food before presenting it; and Aaron from Season 3 says that there's "no crying in Hell's Kitchen".

After hearing from the past contestants, the chefs are greeted by Chef Gordon Ramsay, who tells them to get in the kitchen and start cooking their signature dish. They have 45 minutes.

First Challenge of Hell's Kitchen

After the chefs prepare their dishes, Chef Ramsay calls them together and divides them into teams. The women make up the Red Team, while the men comprise the Blue Team. For the first time ever, the signature dish tasting will be a challenge, with the teams competing head-to-head. The team with the highest number of satisfactory dishes will win the reward, which is a three-course meal from Ramsay's London West Hollywood restaurant. The losing team will have to clean both kitchens, which have been significantly dirtied while preparing the signature dishes.

The first two chefs present their signature dishes, but neither one manages to impress Ramsay. Diner owner Louie and Line Cook Tek are next. Tek wins the round and the women are ahead 1 to 0. Tennille gets the women a second point, but Tony and Jim rebound for the Blue Team, and the teams are tied 2 to 2. After two more rounds of neither team gaining a point, it comes down to the final two dishes, from Van and Sabrina. Ramsay likes both dishes, but gives the edge to Van. The men win the challenge, 3 to 2.

Hell's Kitchen Recipes

After cleaning the kitchens, the women retire to their dorm to find their chef's jackets and a Hell's Kitchen recipe book on each of their beds. They have the daunting task of having to memorize each of the recipes before the next day.

The men decide to hit the hot tub before returning to their dorms. They are also faced with the task of memorizing the recipes, which proves difficult after spending the evening drinking champagne.

Hell's Kitchen Dinner Service

The first dinner service gets off to a rocky start as both kitchens struggle with appetizers. The Red Kitchen cannot get their timing sychronized, causing a huge amount of pasta to be wasted. Lovely disappears from the Red kitchen and is gone for 45 minutes, leaving her team down one person while she is gone.

The Blue Team finally gets past their appetizers, but Louie cannot handle the meat station. After numerous lamb chops are wasted, Chef Ramsay declares he has had enough, and throws Louie out of the kitchen. Ramsay shouts after Louie to pack his bags and leave Hell's Kitchen immediately, making him the first chef eliminated this season.

With the kitchens still struggling, Chef Ramsay makes the decision to shut down the kitchens, putting an end to a disasterous first dinner service.

Robert Returns to Hell's Kitchen

Robert, who had to leave Hell's Kitchen Season 5 due to health problems, was invited to dine with his wife at the first dinner service. However, Chef Ramsay has other plans in mind. He plans to invite Robert back to compete on Season 6. After Louie was thrown out, Ramsay puts his plan into action, asking Robert to return.

A Chef is Eliminated from Hell's Kitchen

Chef Ramsay returns to the kitchens with Robert, introducing him to the remaining chefs. Ramsay has to declare a winning team, and chooses the Blue Team since they managed to get through their appetizers and serve some entrees.

The Red Team has to nominate two members of their team to face elimination. After much deliberation, the women choose Melinda and Amanda for elimination. Melinda is chosen because of her performance at the appetizer station, while Amanda is nominated because she put the salmon in the freezer instead of the refrigerator. Amanda does not agree with the decision, and feels that Lovely should be facing Chef Ramsay instead, because of her poor performance in the kitchen.

Chef Ramsay asks Amanda and Melinda to come forward and state why they should remain in Hell's Kitchen. After hearing their reasons why they should stay, Ramsay tells Melinda to hang up her jacket and leave Hell's Kitchen.

Before sending the teams back to their dorms for the night, Chef Ramsay tells Robert that he will be a part of the Red Team.
