Hell's Kitchen Season 5 Episode 3Fourteen Chefs and Two Cows
In episode 3, Giovanni, the steakhouse chef, gets a chance to prove his worthiness to Hell's Kitchen in the first-ever Hell's Kitchen Steakhouse.
With the Red Team reeling from Ji's departure in the last episode, both teams return to the dorms. The girls are upset that Lacey and Colleen both escaped Chef Ramsey's verdict. After getting to bed late, the Chefs are awoken at 6am by the clanging and banging of pots and pans coming from the kitchen. The two teams are ordered to report to the front of the restaurant . The Chefs are taken to a meat processing facility. They are given a tour of the plant and instructed on the different cuts of beef. The Chefs then return to Hell's Kitchen. The ChallengeChef Ramsey is waiting for them beside two tables, each with eight cuts of beef laid out. He also has two cow statues placed next to the tables. For this challenge, each team has to correctly identify each cut of beef, one chef at a time, until all eight cuts are correctly labeled. After labeling the cuts of beef, the teams then have to label the parts of the cow from which each cut comes. Chef Ramsey chooses Ben to start for the men, and Andrea for the women. Ben and Andrea start out strong, but do not correctly label all the cuts. Giovanni and Paula take over, correctly labeling the beef. At the cow, Giovanni starts out, labeling three areas wrong. Seth takes over, making things worse by having seven labels wrong. Robert doesn't do much better. Colleen and Lacey make little progress for the women. Paula takes over for the women when Ben rings the bell for the men. Ben has correctly labeled all areas of the cow, and the men win their second challenge. Reward and PunishmentChef Ramsey tells the men that they will be flying on private jets to Santa Ynez for a wine-tasting at a local winery, followed by dinner at a steakhouse. The women will stay behind in Hell's Kitchen and take delivery of 2000 pounds of beef for the next day's dinner service. Two massive sides of beef are delivered, which the women have to carry from the truck into the kitchen. Once they have the beef in the kitchen, the women have to cut it into usable portions. After wine-tasting, the men dine on steak while the women are treated to lunch courtesy of Chef Ramsey. Their meal consists of the tongue, kidneys and other unknown parts of the cow. During the meal, Andrea gives a tearful speech that the 'feast' was worse than anything Chef Ramsey could ever say to her, and that they, as a team, needed to step up and pull together so they could avoid punishments in the future. Hell's Kitchen Dinner ServiceThe next day, Chef Ramsey tells them that there will be a change to dinner service that night. Instead of the normal service, Hell's Kitchen will become a steakhouse with two seatings. During the first seating, one team will cook while the other waits tables. Teams will switch duties for the second seating. Since the men won the challenge the day before, they choose to cook first. Each team has two hours to serve as many diners as they can. First SeatingLacey struggles with her customers in the dining room. After 20 minutes, the women finally deliver their first ticket to the kitchen. Charlie sets his cloth on fire while putting shrimp on the grill. While no appetizers have left the kitchen, Ben presents the desserts to the window, completely baffling Chef Ramsey. He throws Ben out of the kitchen. Giovanni is at the grill, and the men are confident they will win since they have the steakhouse chef cooking the steaks. However, their confidence soon falters as steaks are returned to the kitchen for not being cooked. The kitchen is running out of filets, so Ramsey instructs Seth to cut more. Never having cut beef, Seth has to ask Charlie for help. Once shown what to do, Seth takes over, butchering the tenderloin. He tries to hide the excess, which Ramsay quickly finds. There are still tables to be served after the two hours are up. After a disappointing service, it is the Red Team's turn in the kitchen. Second SeatingThis seating starts out bumpy as Colleen has trouble keeping salad orders straight. Charlie struggles in the dining room, not remembering which tables he's taken orders from. Andrea is grilling steaks, and is sending out perfectly cooked meals. However, diners are sending steaks back, claiming they are not cooked properly. Chef Ramsay says the steaks are cooked according to how they were ordered, and sends them back to the dining room. Chef then accuses some of the men of trying to sabotage the women. A Winner is DeclaredAfter the Red Team completes their two hour service, the Chefs gather in the kitchen. Ramsay uses the teams' performances in the kitchen and in the dining room, as well as the customer comment cards to declare a winner. According to the comment cards, Lacey was the worst waitress and Charlie was the worst waiter. The women successfully sent more meals out of their kitchen however, so Chef Ramsay declared the Red Team the winner. EliminationChef Ramsay sends the Chefs back to the dorms, where the Blue Team has to unanimously choose two chefs to nominate for elimination. Ben immediately nominates Charlie and Seth, while both Seth and Charlie feel that Giovanni should be up for elimination. In the dining room, Chef Ramsay asks J who the team has nominated, and he names Charlie and Seth. Seth wants the team polled to see if they agree with what J has said. Chef Ramsay asks Charlie and Seth to step forward and convince him why they should stay. After a short plea from Charlie and a long one from Seth, Chef Ramsay makes his decision. Charlie is sent away from Hell's Kitchen. Chef Ramsay believes that while Charlie is a nice guy and a good prep chef, he's not Head Chef material.
