Hell's Kitchen Season 5 Episode 215 Chefs Compete
The Hell's Kitchen chefs endure a messy challenge that results in a lofty reward for some of the chefs and a disappointing let down for others in Episode 2.
After Wil's elimination, the remaining chefs return to their dorms to discuss the events of the day before heading to bed. The next morning they are rudely awakened by a loud drum line. The chefs scramble out of bed to meet Chef Ramsay outside of Hell's Kitchen, where he presents them with crates full of fresh scallops in sea water. He tells the chefs that they must collect the scallops out of the cold water and take them into their kitchens. The ChallengeIn the kitchens, Chef Ramsay gives the teams their challenge: to shuck as many scallops as they can in 15 minutes. The team with the most properly shucked scallops would win the reward, a helicopter flight to Catalina Island. After Chef Ramsay demonstrates how to shuck a scallop, the chefs get to work. Andrea is chosen to sit out of the challenge since the Red team has one more member than the Blue team. After 15 minutes, Ramsay examines each team's scallops, deeming them acceptable or not. The Red team's scallops are counted first, with an impressive 35 properly shucked scallops. Anxiously awaiting the Blue team's results, it looks at first as if the women will win, but the men squeak by with 36 good scallops. The men win the challenge. The RewardWhile the men are preparing for their trip to Catalina, Chef Ramsay calls Robert into his office. Ramsay informs him that he will not be able to ride in the helicopter due to his weight, and he will have to take the ferry to Catalina to participate in the reward. The Blue team members in the helicopter arrive in Catalina, and take a ride off the coast in a glass submarine. It's an awesome sight, surrounded by sea life. Robert finally arrives by ferry, only to have to turn right back around and return to Hell's Kitchen. While the Blue team is enjoying their reward, the Red team is preparing the Hell's Kitchen raw bar by shucking the remaining scallops. Lacey, however, claims she doesn't feel well and spends the day in bed. Dinner ServiceThe next day both teams prepare for that night's dinner service. During prep, Ji slips and twists her ankle but continues to work through service even though she is in pain. Chef Ramsay selects Robert and Paula to serve the raw bar for their teams while the other chefs remain in the kitchens. Both kitchens continue to have problems. Colleen cannot seem to handle the Fish station in the Red kitchen, so Chef Ramsay sends her out to replace Paula at the raw bar. The men have trouble with their risotto, spaghetti lobster, and salmon. Danny saves the day for the Blue team with his lamb dish. EliminationBoth teams are just a few tables away from successfully completing dinner service. The first team to complete service will win and be safe from having a member eliminated. The Blue team finishes service first, forcing the Red team to choose two members to nominate for elimination . Colleen volunteers herself, knowing that she messed up badly at the Fish station. The team nominates Lacey to go up for elimination, because of her attitude. Just as Chef Ramsay is about to make his decision as to which chef should leave Hell's Kitchen, Ji interrupts. Ji volunteers to go home as she is in too much pain to continue. In a rare show of heart, Chef Ramsay honors Ji's wish, and lets her keep her jacket.
