Hell's Kitchen Finale: Create a Dream RestaurantHell's Kitchen Finalists Face Off For Choice Ramsay Prize
It's time to draw a line down the middle of Hell's Kitchen. Petrozza and Christina, our two finalists, are calling the shots in the "Create Your Dream Restaurant" Finale
Hell’s Kitchen Meets While You Were Out Christina’s vision sounded good on paper. Yet something went horribly awry when she let the designer run with her idea. Now she’s left with garish striped wallpaper and some sort of goofy, city-skyline window treatments. As for Petrozza’s design plan, it came out pretty much like he imagined it. Not sure yet if that’s a good thing. It involved brick overlay on the walls, purplish fabric and flowers everywhere. I'm not feeling it yet, P. Punked again! Jean-Philippe interrupts the design process by announcing that Chef wants to see both finalists in his office…urgently! Christina and Petrozza make the slow, death row march upstairs. Chef is grim. He’s worried, you see. “I’ve been wondering if I have the right finalists,” Yeah, I’ve been saying all along that “Mr. Mom” Dominic was robbed. Our terrified cheflings go for the fake, of course. “Now, I know I do!” Gordon breaks into a fiendish grin. He tells the dazed duo he is taking them on an impromptu trip to New York to visit his restaurant there. One Big Apple for starters…While Hell’s Kitchen gets a makeover, Petrozza, Christina and Chef R. jet off to New York City. They are greeted with a welcome message on the big Panasonic Astrovision screen in Times Square. But wait! There’s more! The two are also being treated to a 5-day stay at the Hilton in Dubai, home to yet another of Ramsay’s restaurants. Petrozza is elated; Christina wonders where Dubai is. I gotta admit, she had me there. Signature Dish Face-OffAt Chef’s London NYC, the contestants are told to prepare their signature dishes, to be judged by five of Ramsay’s head chefs. My buddy Petrozza has certainly come a long way since his Episode 1 signature dish, Hen-In-A-Pumpkin. Hen-In-A-What…? Moving on…Petrozza scored big with a gorgeous filet with caramelized onion risotto. Christina outdid her little ‘ol self as well, serving up an aged NY strip steak, roasted fingerling potatoes, and sweet corn succotash. It was a squeaker, but Petrozza came out on top. Christina didn’t get her record 10 challenge wins, but it was a valiant effort. And I was happy to see Petrozza didn’t have to be the bridesmaid yet again. Meanwhile, back in HellService for the finale will feature teams made up of the last six chefs eliminated. (So that’s why they let Matt and Jen hang around so long!) Our final two chefs fly back to the home field, and the Jacketless Six are there as well. Petrozza is given first round draft pick as reward for his NYC win. We all know Christina wants her best pal, Corey. Petrozza could take Corey just to trip Christina up, but he’s not that devious. That’s why we love Petrozza. He picks Bobby, a solid choice. Christina snaps Corey up like she’s the last nacho on the plate. The first-stringers out of the way, we’re left with Ben, Louross, Matt and Jen. Petrozza takes Ben. Not a bad plan, considering Petrozza is one of about three people on the planet Ben is able to get along with. Little Louross goes to Christina’s team. Matt and Jen are the last two picks (probably not the first time for either of them). Hmmm…This looks like a good place to end Part 1 of the Finale! Will She, or Won't She?Whoever winds up with Everyboy's-threatened-by-me! Jen automatically gets my sympathy vote. Will she sabotage her team captain out of sheer bitterness? We'll have to see if sour grapes are on the menu next week.
