Gilles Marini Earns Two Perfect Scores on DWTSDancing with the Stars, 810
Shawn Johnson earns a perfect score and has her best performance yet; Judge Len Goodman awards Gilles Marini an unofficial 11; Ty Murray still not up to par for judges
The May 11, 2009 episode of Dancing with the Stars, 810, was the semifinals for the season. The final four teams performed one ballroom and one Latin dance. Also, each team discussed their favorite performances from the season. Couple CommentsMelissa Rycroft felt her defining moment was her Foxtrot (week three). She said it was so hard to keep her frame still but her feet movie, but she felt she really hit it. Her Samba (week nine) was also a big moment because it was a perfect score. Melissa said she finally understood Latin hip work that week. Gilles Marini loved his Foxtrot (week nine) because he felt confident, but Cheryl was able to pick out some missed moments. The couple also talked about their Paso Doble (week 10). Cheryl admitted she messed Gilles up a little bit, but he loved the emotion they both gave. Shawn Johnson said the Quickstep (week nine) was a turning point for her. She showed off her bubbly personality for the first time. The Latin turning point for Shawn was the Paso Doble (week nine). She was excited to shock everyone with her ultra serious side. Ty Murray thought his Quickstep (week two) is what has kept him around. Chelsie said he showed he could hold a nice frame that week. The couple believed their Lindy Hop (week four) was their break through Latin dance because Ty danced confidently for the first time. First PerformanceMelissa and Tony – Quickstep – This performance was adorable, fun and had some cute moves. Len thought Melissa’s feet were much improved. Bruno said it was good but not as exciting as semifinals should be. Carrie Ann said Melissa didn’t look like she was having fun. Score – 28 Gilles and Cheryl – Viennese Waltz – This dance was beautiful. Gilles and Cheryl showed a great connection. Bruno stood up and screamed in excitement. Carrie Ann said it was breath taking and perfection. Len gave the couple a sitting down standing ovation. Score – 30 Shawn and Mark – Argentine Tango – Shawn’s moves were strong this week. She definitely had her ultra serious face back on. Carrie Ann said Shawn delivered and her lifts were amazing. Len said it was Shawn’s best performance yet. Bruno compared Shawn to Catherine Zeta Jones. Score – 30 Ty and Chelsie – Viennese Waltz – Ty looked nervous during the performance. Len said it was fabulous, even with the stumbles. Bruno didn’t think the dance was graceful. Carrie Ann thought it wasn’t great. The judges fought over opinions as Ty and Chelsie were sent backstage. Score – 25 Second PerformanceMelissa and Tony – Cha Cha Cha – Melissa once again proved she can be flirty and technically on. Bruno said sometimes Melissa lost her energy. Carrie Ann and Len thought the dance was OK but wasn’t up to semifinals caliber. Score – Gilles and Cheryl – Salsa – This dance was super hot and really got the crowd going. Carrie Ann said that was Gilles at his best. Len said he wished he had an ‘11’ paddle. Bruno said the couple deservers to be in the finals. Score – 30 Shawn and Mark – Jive – Shawn looked like she was having an amazing time during this dance. Len said there wasn’t enough traditional Jive. Bruno loved the wild dancing and thought the performance was strong. Carrie Ann thought she lost steam toward the end. Score – 26 Ty and Chelsie – Samba – This was better than his first performance but still not great. Bruno said it was a brave effort. Carrie Ann voted him most valuable player of season eight. Len said it was too quick and hectic. Score – 23
