America’s Next Top Model, Let’s Go See the City (April 29, 2009)

The models go on go-sees with top Brazilian designers and compete in a high-fashion swimsuit shoot. Also, something a model can't help gets in the way of her dreams.

On the April 29, 2009 episode of America’s Next Top Model the five remaining models went on their first go-sees. When two models were late arriving back their consequences took them out of the running for the challenge’s prize.

Sao Paulo Go-Sees

The girls met with Paulo Borges, the director of Sao Paulo fashion week, who told them they would be going on five go-sees. The point was to see if the girls could handle a day in the life of a real working model. Paulo also told the girls that the Brazilian photographers would be looking for class, personality and soul. Allison was very nervous, which showed on her face. The girls only had four hours, and Celia thought the best idea would be to start with the furthest go-see.

At Celia’s first go-see the designer loved her but was worried she is too old. One designer told Allison she looked good in pictures but her walk was too slow. A third designer believed Fo was too short. It took Teyona a long time to find a go-see that someone wasn’t already at, but when she finally found one the designer loved her. The same designer also loved Aminat. She and Teyona were a big hit with many of the designers, whereas Allison was not a favorite because of her walk.

3:31 is Late

The girls were supposed to meet Paulo at 3:30 p.m. Teyona and Aminat were the first to arrive. Allison arrived at 3:29 p.m., but Celia arrived at 3:31 p.m. and Fo arrived almost 20 minutes later. Celia did not think she was late, so when she was told she was disqualified she was shocked. Fo was also disqualified, and the two did not get to ride in the helicopter back to Sao Paulo fashion week’s headquarters. When they arrived at headquarters the girls learned Teyona had won the challenge because she had a great personality and walk.

High Fashion on the Beach

The episode’s photo shoot was high-fashion swimwear. The girls had to make themselves stand out in a crowd, and Nigel Barker took the photos. Aminat looked amazing in her photos, but she had a hard time figuring out how to position her long legs. Jay said that Fo was too safe and her lack of interaction with the extras made the photos look remedial. Allison had no problem interacting with the extras, and Nigel was very impressed. Nigel didn’t think Teyona had the best swimsuit body, but he loved the way she moved her body. Celia had a hard time connecting with the character, and Nigel had to step in to show her what he wanted.

Elimination

At elimination the judges told Teyona she knows how to move like a model. Celia learned she wasn’t the easy girl to shoot, and she claimed she was unfocused because she practiced too much before the shoot. They told Aminat she needs to get in to the scene more. Tyra told Aminat her pictures show a waste of a body because she doesn’t seem to know what she has. Fo was told she kept doing the same, unusual pose and this was her worst photo yet. Lastly, Nigel told Allison he was so impressed, and Tyra said the photo was very impressive.

The decision came down to Celia and Fo. Fo was sent home basically because she just doesn’t photograph tall enough.
