The Amazing Race Asia 2 (TARA2) took off in Singapore three months ago (on air). Ten teams participated from various Asian countries. Tonight, three of the strongest teams remain to compete for the grand prize of USD100,000. Here are team performance summaries and a rough prediction of tonight's outcome.
Marc and Rovilson is unquestionably the strongest team on the race. They have dominated all legs but three, finishing first each time, any many times, hours ahead of the other teams. The three times when they had lost their lead, they had actually lost to Adrian and Collin (twice) and Vanessa and Pamela (once).
There really has not been a team that has been able to seriously threaten the Marc and Rovilson lead. Overall, they have demonstrated a better understanding of game strategies; they have used physical strength to their advantage; mentally they are also come across far stronger than the others. They seem to adapt well in the foreign countries they have visited.
The team also demonstrates a fair amount of humility, saying they were blessed throughout the race by multiple streaks of "retarded luck." They narrowly escaped the first Yield in Korea, when team Singapore decided not to exercise the tool, minutes before Marc and Rovilson arrived. They have had friendly helping hands along the way of the race and have have emaculate luck with tasks that involved nothing but luck.
Overall, Marc and Rovilson seem set to race to the finish line and finish first. But who knows, maybe their retarded luck might just turn sour.
Adrian and Collin are one of the many teams that did not stand out in the initial legs of the race. They seemed to gel into the background despite being the only other all-male team on the race. Perhaps they were overshadowed by Team Phillipines' wit and humour at the beginning.
However, a strong presence begin to develop, especially due to Adrian's hearing disability. Other teams and the audience at home are continuously impressed at his ability to partake in all challenges, even the Roadblocks, where Collin was unavailable to communicate with him in sign language.
Team Singapore is physically a strong team and rather strategic as seen during the leg that involved a train-ride from Prague to Budapest - they managed to outsmart all other teams by taking a longer but faster route. They also managed to beat Marc and Rovilson during a heated battle for the Fast Forward in Budapest.
Adrian an Collin seem to be the only real competitors to Marc and Rovilson and have displayed healthy sportsmanship - just by taking the race one leg at a time and improving on their perfomances. There is still a chance for them to outsmart Team Phillipines and overtake them to the finish line.
Vanessa and Pamela have a legacy to live up to, after TARA 1 was won by Joe Jer and Zabrina, the under-dog all-girl team from Malaysia. The sisters' relationship however, is laced with sibling arguments that end in tears.
Despite a strong start in the first leg, where the girls beat Marc and Rovilson to the finish line in Phillipines, Vanessa and Pamela, have seemed to be unable to regain their focus and drive to move on up to poll position. They have been seen to be consistently racing for second-to-last place and only in recent legs have managed to secure third position behind the two alpha-male teams.
To be fair, they were plagued with bad luck during the legs. They frequently lost their way; they were hit by a car in New Zealand; and Vanessa suffered a concussion after a 10 metre jump into a swimming pool in Prague.
Luck can change on the race and maybe their sibling camaraderie will help them overtake the others. There also has yet to be a leg set in Malaysia, which would benefit the girls immensely. They could take the lead before returning back to Singapore, should the race end there in predictable fashion.
