The couples performed their first group dance. Shawn Johnson finally came to life. Chuck Wicks performed his best dance yet.
Tonight the final six performed several different dances. Melissa took the top score, while Ty and Gilles made big comebacks. Tomorrow night Natasha Bedingfield and Celtic Woman will perform. Also, the season nine professional dancers’ competition will begin, and a seventh star will be eliminated. Melissa Rycroft and Tony danced the Argentine tango. The crowd roared after the dance, and the judges loved her lifts. Len loved the interaction between Melissa and Tony. Bruno said Melissa’s legs were “like magic tools in the hands of a master.” Carrie Ann said it was the best tango they’ve seen all season. Score – 29 Lawrence Taylor and Edyta danced the waltz. It was very romantic, but Lawrence isn’t as good as previous football players have been. Bruno thought it wasn’t great but wasn’t terrible. Carrie Ann thought Lawrence seemed free. Len was shocked with how well Lawrence did. Score – 21 Lil’ Kim and Derek danced the rumba. They had a lot of fantastic steps and turns in their performance. Carrie Ann thought Lil’ Kim was underwhelming trying to please Len. Len and Bruno thought things were just missing without Lil’ Kim’s sexiness. Score – 26 Chuck Wicks and Julianne danced the samba. Julianne’s choreography was incredible. Len said it was their best dance yet, and Carrie Ann was so overcome with excitement that she stood up and danced. Bruno loved Chuck’s hip shaking. Score – 27 Ty Murray and Chelsie danced the waltz. Ty showed off his sweet side this week and received help from his wife, Jewel, during rehearsals. Bruno thought the waltz was a huge comeback. Carrie Ann said his posture and connection was perfect. Len said it was spot on. Score – 24 Shawn Johnson and Mark danced the cha cha cha. Shawn had trouble during rehearsals but it didn’t show during the performance. Carrie Ann said Shawn’s dancing finally “came to life.” Len thought it was fantastic. Bruno said she was vibrant like Debbie Reynolds. Score – 28 Gilles Marini and Cheryl danced the Viennese waltz. Gilles was very nervous this week about whether or not they would be back on top. Len thought the dance was great but warned to watch the footwork. Bruno also loved the dance, and Carrie Ann called Gilles the most graceful male dancer. Score – 27 After the couple performances the stars and their professionals performed their first group dance. The theme was the ‘60s, and everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun. This time the stars had to dance without their professionals, and Melissa and Lil’ Kim felt they had lost their comfort zone. The performance was very entertaining and had a lot of exciting moves. Bruno thought the men’s performance was “sublime silliness.” Carrie Ann said the girls nailed the performance, and Len said it took him back to the days when he went clubbing in London.
