Cootes and Pollards on Top – American Road TripGreat American Road Trip, Gateway to the West
The families create and perform skits for the people of Branson; The top three teams head to the movies for an obstacle course
On the July 13, 2009 episode of Great American Road Trip, Gateway to the West, the families traveled from St. Louis, Missouri to Cartage, Missouri. The Great American Talent ChallengeBefore heading to their overnight destination the families were told to stop at the famous Ted Drewes Famous Custard for a concrete (ice cream drink). After indulging the families left for Meramec Caverns. The families went on a tour of the caves with a Jesse James look-alike and the Montgomerys fished at a nearby river. The next day the families traveled to Branson, Missouri for their challenge, which was to create an entertaining skit. The families spent the 200 mile trip figuring out what they would do. Not everyone was comfortable performing so there were some issues about getting members in the Pollards and Favereysto participate. Silvio was very excited about rapping but his wife thought people in Missouri wouldn’t get it. When they arrived in Branson the teams put on costumes and learned they were going to compete in front of hundreds of people. The Disalvatores rapped and dance but forgot several lines. The judges thought the performance was enthusiastic but the kids could’ve done more. The Ricos performed a play about Route 66. The judges thought it was amazing. The Pollards jazzed up Old Macdonald with a banjo and dancing. The judges thought the energy and enthusiasm was fantastic. The Montgomerys also performed children’s songs but added a step routine. The judges thought it was interesting. The Favereys sang and dance. The judges said it was boring. The Cootes rapped and performed a cheerleading routine. The judges thought they had everything. The winner of the talent competition was the Pollards. The Montgomerys, Favereys and Desalvatores were in the bottom three, but instead of an elimination the Pollards, Cootes and Ricos were told they would be competing for a prize. The Great American Kids Take ControlFinally, the families stopped at the Route 66 Drive-In in Carthage, Missouri for their prize challenge. A bunch of classic cars were sent up in an obstacle course. The father had to run through the cars to find the concession stand, grab the popcorn and sodas and return the snacks to the mother. The fathers were wearing remote control eyewear. Since they couldn’t see, the kids were given a remote control to help them maneuver. Ricky got stuck walking sideways so Keith and Ron were the first fathers with their snacks. The prize really could’ve gone to either family because Keith and Ron were so close. They actually had to check the final photo to find out that the Cootes had won the Hollywood, California trip, complete with a movie premiere.
