Former Stars Face a Focus Group and Makeovers

Seven aging teen idols see themselves through someone else's eyes, witnessing an all-female focus group. A celebrity stylist comes for to makeover the stars.

Last week’s episode of Confessions of a Teel Idol ended on a sour note, with several of the former teen stars angry about a stunt pulled by producers Scott Baio and Jason Hervey. Though the cast has only been in the house for a week, they have had plenty to think about.

Teen Idol Focus Group

The former teen idols received a call sheet, stating that they would be picked up in an hour for a focus group. Actor Bill Hufsey, formerly of Fame, commented that he used to organize and run corporate focus groups. When they arrived at the location, Jason Hervey informed the men that a focus group would be shown clips of the celebrities during their peak and now, and asked to comment on both. Unbeknownst to the focus group, the idols would be watching the entire conversation.

The women had big reactions to the early videos of all the celebrities. However, they had many negative reactions to the way the men currently look. Jeremy Jackson, best known for his role on Baywatch, took his commentary particularly hard after one woman suggested he looked like he was still on drugs.

Christopher Atkins, who costarred in The Blue Lagoon with Brooke Shields, was the clear favorite of the focus group. The women commented that he was still attractive, and even likened him to Robert Redford. When asked who they thought could take his career to the next level, Atkins was overwhelmingly chosen.

Group Therapy with Cooper Lawrence

Another call sheet arrived at the Teen Idol house, indicating that they had a meeting behind the big black doors. The celebrities knew that this meant another session with celebrity therapist Cooper Lawrence. They got a chance to vent about the negative comments that they listened to, and discovered that most of them felt more determined to recover their careers after this experience. Musician Jamie Walters stated that he feels content with his life, however.

Celebrity Stylist Jen Rade Visits

Costume designer and celebrity stylist Jennifer Rade was the next person to knock on the house door. The stylist to top celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Pink, Rade knows Hollywood fashion. She had the idols put on an outfit that best expresses their personality, and proceeded to critique them all. While some of the guys took the advice as helpful and positive, there were others who reacted badly to her blunt tone. Jamie Walters seemed to have a breakthrough here as he realized how much he loves music.

Teen Idol Makeovers

The next day, the idols went to Lisa Kline for Men to shop for new outfits. For some of the men, it was a simple and enjoyable process. However, a few of the guys had difficulty finding an outfit that fit their personality and wasn’t too trendy. Eric Nies made the cast laugh with the comment, “But why do I need underwear?” After the shopping, Jeremy Jackson and Nies went to a salon while the rest of the men went to a spa for facials and other skin treatments.

Though many of the stars resisted the idea of changing their looks and focusing on image, they all were pleased with their new looks in the end. They were also excited to show their looks to Jen Rade, and hoped for a more positive reaction. Eric Nies had one of the largest breakthroughs of the day, maintaining a natural look but gaining polish.
