Erinn almost shoots herself in the foot; Stephen and J.T. spent the night away from camp; Coach becomes another blindside

On the May 14, 2009 episode of Survivor: Tocantins, Martyr Approach, Coach began to throw excuses out to avoid Exile, but Exile is unavoidable.

Fear Will Send You Away

Coach, Stephen and J.T. were talking about Exile, and Coach immediately brought up that his breathing and back were bothering him. He told the boys the calculating thing would be to send one of the girls, but the honorable thing would be for him or J.T. to go. Stephen and J.T. figured Coach was just scared to go.

Reward Challenge

The reward challenge had two parts. The first part was a maze the players had to complete with their feet shackled. In the second part the players had to build a pole long enough to retrieve a sandbag. The players then had to use the sandbag to knock over three bags that would in turn raise a flag. First person with a raised flag would win.

J.T. was in the lead the whole time. He was also the first to reach the poles.

Erinn, Stephen and Taj got very lost in the maze, and J.T.’s pole was almost finished before they reached the end.

Coach had barely reached his sandbag when J.T.’s flag went up making him the winner. He won an overnight that included a warm bed and a shower. J.T. chose Coach for Exile because it was “noble.” J.T. chose Stephen to go on the reward with him.

Coach said he wasn’t going to build a fire or eat, just meditate, and Erinn jumped in to say that was a martyr thing to do. She said he was just trying to make his experience the worst.

Exile is Peace

Coach said he barely slept or ate and had very little water in Exile Island, but he loved it because of those things. He knew it would be hard for him to get through the challenge, but he still said he will win in the end.

Immunity Challenge

The challenge was a balance challenge. Each player had to hold themselves up between two tall boards. The players could brace with their arms, but they only had small pegs to balance their feet on. Every couple of minutes the players moved down set of pegs. The last person standing would win.

Erinn was the first to fall, and Stephen and Taj fell next.

J.T. asked Jeff if there was any food involved. Jeff asked if he would drop for food, and J.T. said he would. Coach told him he wasn’t worried J.T. would vote him out, so he would go for that.

Finally, Coach let out a dramatic moan and fell to his knees. Stephen and J.T. immediately ran to him, and later Stephen said that, although he did feel bad, it was partly strategy.

I Will Be Last

J.T. told Coach he and Stephen were ready to send Erinn home for calling Coach out earlier. Stephen joined the group, and they discussed how disgusted they were with Erinn’s attitude.

Coach was convinced he will make it through all of the blindsides and become the last standing member of Timbira.

Tribal Council

Erinn’s comments were discussed at tribal council. Erinn said Coach’s drama was ridiculous. She said his comments that Exile was great made her feel horrible. Coach claimed he wasn’t trying to make her feel bad, but he had past experiences that helped him through.

The audience saw J.T. and Coach write down Erinn’s name, and Taj and Erinn write

down Coach’s name. Stephen’s vote was the deciding factor, and he must have voted Coach because Coach was eliminated.
