Chuck Wicks, Julianne Hough Eliminated on DWTSAmerican Idol and Dancing with the Stars (April 28, 2009)
On AI Matt Giraud gave an "absolutely brilliant" performance and Adam Lambert was named the Michael Phelps of the show. On DWTS Mayo caught the eye of the judges.
Tonight on American Idol the theme was the Rat Pack, and Jamie Foxx was on hand to work with the top five singers. He said he loved working with all of them, which was apparently a surprise to him. On Dancing with the Stars Robin Thicke performed and two more professional dancers competed for a spot on the next season. American Idol, Performance Show Kris Allen – The Way You Look Tonight, Frank Sinatra – His performance was so romantic and Randy said it was his best performance yet. Kara said he set the technical standard for the night very high. Paula said the performance was close to perfect. Simon wasn’t as excited about the performance because it was safe. Allison Iraheta – Someone to Watch Over Me, Ella Fitzgerald – Allison’s performance was strong, solid and fit well. Randy said he was worried because she is young, but he loved that she made the song her own. Kara said if her performance tonight doesn’t land her in the finals, she doesn’t know what will. Paula thought her innocent side was alluring and tender. Simon said he doesn’t feel she believes she can win. Matt Giraud – My Funny Valentine, Frank Sinatra – The performance was good, not great, and it didn’t get the audience reaction that some of the other singers got. Randy thought it was too pitchy. Kara didn’t think Matt was emotionally connected to the song. Paula felt the emotions and felt she heard a different side of him. Simon said Matt was authentic and “absolutely brilliant.” Danny Gokey – Come Rain or Shine, Frank Sinatra – This was a really strong performance for Danny, and he had the audience on their feet before he hit his final note. Randy said Danny could definitely have a Rat Pack album and succeed. Kara said it was the most creative ending he has done. Paula said it was a stellar performance. Simon thought the performance was outstanding. Adam Lambert – Feeling Good, Sammy Davis, Jr. – Adam gave the song his signature rock vibe and had the crowd on their feet the entire song. He also rocked the most amazing high note. Randy said it was a little too Broadway but it was still in the zone. Kara said he was shocking and superb. Paula called Adam the Michael Phelps of AI. Simon said he is happy to see Adam continue to show he wants to win. Dancing with the Stars, 808A This week on DWTS Robin Thicke performed and professionals’ competition continued. The judges loved Genya’s and Afton’s performances. The couple performed the Quickstep, and the judges thought it was fun and exciting. Mayo and Anna performed the Jive, and Carrie Ann was pleasantly surprised by Mayo’s skills. Mayo, who is six foot three inches, seemed to be the favorites, and the judges couldn’t get over how well he did the Jive for his height. Melissa Rycroft was back for the judges’ decision. She said it broke her heart not to perform last night, but she is optimistic about the treatments she has recently received. The first teams announced safe were Lil’ Kim and Derek, Ty Murray and Chelsie and Gilles Marini and Cheryl. Shawn Johnson and Mark were the last safe team, leaving Chuck Wicks and Julianne and Melissa and Tony in the bottom two. Before the announcement the judges agreed that Melissa should stay based on all previous weeks, and the viewers agreed. Chuck and Julianne were eliminated.
