Gene Simmons and Nely Galán lead their teams in creating a thirty-second television commercial. One celebrity is fired.
The episode opens as Stephen Baldwin gives the check from his win as project manager last week to his mother for her charity, the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund. Mrs. Baldwin is visibly moved. Commercial TV Spot ChallengeThe next challenge involves dogs, television, and heart. The teams are to produce a thirty-second television spot to help promote the Pedigree Dog Adoption Drive. Donald Trump asks the teams to choose a project manager. Gene Simmons is given the thumbs up for Hydra while Nely Galán is chosen for Empresario. Terry Lundgren from Macy’s and Ivanka Trump will also be around to look in on the competitors. The winner will receive $20,000 for their charity. Empresario Features Many Dogs, No CelebritiesGalán starts her war room session by instructing the group to take deep breaths and think positive thoughts. Omarosa sits off to the side and types on her laptop, refusing to join in with the rest. After their brief internal meeting, Empresario then meets with Rob Leibowitz, Vice President of Marketing for Pedigree, to find out about the company’s specific needs and ideas for the commercial. Empresario’s plan was to feature several different dogs, each with a “voice” read by an actor. Marilu Henner coached the actors and appeared onscreen for the closing. However, when the team reviewed her spot at the end it seemed manic and rushed. They chose to have Henner do a voiceover instead. Nadia Comaneci’s task was to make sure the actors had food and drink. Galán had to remind her to do each step, making Comaneci seem confused and timid. Simmons Takes the Lead, Insults Ivanka TrumpHydra’s project manager, on the other hand, chose to skip a meeting with Pedigree and instead go right to work. Stephen Baldwin immediately volunteered to direct. The team came up with the idea of Lennox Lewis interacting with an English bulldog. All seems to be going smoothly for Hydra until Ivanka Trump enters their war room and asks for details on their concept. Simmons not only rudely dismisses her but makes a sexist remark about her spilling secrets to her “sisters,” meaning, Empresario. Baldwin chose Trace Adkins to read the voiceover for their commercial. This proved an intelligent tactic and prompted Simmons to comment that he thought he heard “the voice of God” upon listening to the playback. After filming, Simmons chose to work only with Baldwin on the editing, sending the rest of the team home to rest. Hydra’s members were angry and displeased at this choice, as they wouldn’t have input into the final version. This tactic, however, proved to be the right one. The Teams Present Their Commercials to PedigreeUpon presenting Empresario’s commercial to Leibowitz, Galán enthusiastically talked about web spots and radio ads they could also do for Pedigree. Trump’s impatience with her over the top enthusiasm was obvious, and he asked the group to just present the commercial. In meeting Hydra, Leibowitz indicated his clear annoyance at their decision not to meet with him first. At the end of the viewing, one team’s commercial stood out: Hydra’s. The voiceover from Adkins and the viewer appeal of Lewis were hits, as was the focus on just one dog. The commercial will air on network television during the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show early this year. Alt, Comaneci, and Galán Battle It OutAs project manager for Empresario, Galán chose Alt and Comaneci to join her in the boardroom. Trump felt Alt shouldn’t have been there, and focused instead on Galán’s frenzied approach and Comaneci’s lack of leadership. He asked Comaneci why he should chose her instead of Galán and she wasn’t able to provide a good answer. Comaneci was fired. Next week: Gene Simmons joins the girl's team.
