Six dancers compete for a spot in the top 10; Nigel talks about rumors of a Michael Jackson-themed episode
On the July 9, 2009 episode of So You Think You Can Dance, 2 of 12 Voted Off, the judges made their final male and female cuts. Plus, Kelly Rowland and David Guetta performed When Love Takes Over. The Judges’ Final RemarksBefore the performance Nigel cleared up rumors of a Michael Jackson-themed episode. He explained the choreographers were very excited about creating the routines, but the show was told by Sony that for one reason or another the show was not allowed to use the music. Mary talked about giving up the judges’ vote. She said she was nervous because she wanted people to remember what dancers had done in the past and what they do in the present but she is relieved to give someone else the chance to make the decisions. SYTYCD Bottom Three – Week 5The first couples brought to the stage were Caitlin and Jason and Janette and Brandon. Caitlin and Jason were in the bottom three, and Mary said the couple needs to be fearless and come out fighting tonight. The second couples brought to the stage were Randi and Evan and Jeanine and Phillip. Jeanine and Phillip were the second couple in the bottom three. Nigel said the Russian folk dance could’ve hurt them in votes but the judges’ decisions are based on their past dances too. He also said the judges have pretty much made up their minds before the solo performances. Melissa and Ade and Kayla and Kupono were the last couples brought out. Melissa and Ade were the last couple in the bottom three. Tyce thought Ade hurt the group the previous night because he lacked energy. SYTYCD Solos – Week 5Caitlin’s leaps, turns and leg lifts were beautiful and smooth. Jason stumbled once but began his routine with an amazing leap down the stairs. Jeanine tried to show a lot of emotion during her performance but the trying got in the way of her moves. Phillip’s hip hop routine was insane and so much fun to watch. Melissa is such a graceful ballerina, and her solo proved she deserves to stay in the competition. Ade’s routine was incredible! His flips and turns proved to the judges he had his energy back. SYTYCD Elimination – Week 5This week the judges’ decisions were unanimous. Nigel said the decisions were based on whether or not the dancer had shown that they are a star yet. Caitlin was eliminated without an explanation. She was the first of the female dancers pulled forward, and she looked stunned. Phillip was eliminated from the competition because he hadn’t excelled in genres other than his own. You could see he knew it was coming when he was asked to step forward. Before he was let go though, Nigel announced he and Caitlin would be joining the top 10 dancers on the So You Think You Can Dance Tour.
