NBC's The Biggest Loser returns for an eighth season. This season has some dramatic past histories for many of the contestants, a previous contestant from Season 7 is given a second chance, and has the heaviest contestant ever.

The First Challenge

The Season 8 cast of the Biggest Loser doesn’t even make it to the ranch before the challenges begin. They take a detour off of the highway and are met by host Alison Sweeney at what turns out to be the last mile of Season 7’s marathon. The new contestants are going to be racing 1 mile for their first challenge. The winner will receive immunity for the week and get first choice of their new teammate.

Contestants Coach Mo and Tracy had medical issues during the race and both required medical attention away from the ranch.

Teammates and the Weigh In

The new competitors were given the opportunity to get to know each other before making the big decision. There are some heart breaking stories in this season: Abby lost her family including her husband and two young children in a senseless car accident; Shay grew up with a Mom addicted to heroin. Teammates were picked and were then introduced to Bob and Jillian as the first weigh-in began.

New Teams and Weights

The new teams came together as follows:

  • Daniel (weight: 312) and Shay (weight: 476) = orange team
  • Allen (weight: 325) and Abby (weight: 247) = green team
  • Amanda (weight: 250) and Rebecca (weight: 279) = pink team
  • Rudy (weight: 442) and Dina (weight: 253) = blue team
  • Antoine (weight: 367) and Sean (weight: 444) = red team
  • Liz (weight: 267) and Danny (weight: 430) = brown team
  • Alexandria (weight: 309) and Julio (weight: 407) = black team
  • Coach Mo and Tracy will be the purple team but were still in the hospital during the first weigh in.

First Workout

The first workout with Bob and Jillian is never an easy one. Shay is the heaviest contestant in Biggest Loser history at 476 pounds and her workout was hard on her. She quit in the middle of it, but talked herself into finishing.

The Final Weigh-In

The contestants were brought together for the final weigh-in of the week. They weighed in as teams. Weight loss results were:

Orange Team:
