Asuka and Jonathan Eliminated on SYTYCDSo You Think You Can Dance, 2 of 16 Voted Off
The group narrows to 14; One dancer gives a solo performance to remember; Michael Jackson is remembered
On the June 25, 2009 episode of So You Think You Can Dance, 2 of 16 Voted Off, the top sixteen dancers learned who would survive through to the next week. Also, The Veronicas performed their new single, Take Me On the Floor. Nigel Says Goodbye to an IconBefore the show got in to the results and performances Nigel said goodbye to Farrah Fawcett, who tried to teach him how to make a pecan pie last Christmas, and Michael Jackson. Fawcett, 62, and Jackson, 50, died earlier today. “I hope their grieving is only short because this is a life to celebrate. This is a life who remains inspirational for anyone who listens to music, anyone who wants to dance,” he said about Jackson. The Bottom ThreeAsuka and Vitolio, Janette and Brandon, Randi and Evan, Jeanine and Phillip, Melissa and Ade were in the first group. Of that group, Asuka and Vitolio were the only couple in the bottom three. Karla and Jonathan, Caitlin and Jason and Kayla and Kupono were in the second group. Of that group, Karla and Jonathon and Caitlin and Jason were in the bottom three. SYTYCD Week 3 Solo PerformancesAsuka’s performance was good but not amazing. Her hip movements are incredible, though. Vitolio’s jumps were beautiful, and his moves were strong and Karla’s routine was odd but showed off her versatility when it comes to different styles of dance. Jonathan’s performance was fast paced, and the audience loved the gymnastics moves while Caitlin’s performance was elegant and graceful. She always seems to float on air. The audience didn’t sound very in to Jason’s performance. They love when he does back flips and front flips, but his dancing is less than exciting. SYTYCD Week 3 EliminationThe judges eliminated Asuka first. Nigel said she was an exciting and beautiful performer, but the judges felt she wasn’t growing as a dancer. The judges had no negative critiques for Caitlin, who, according to them, had the best solo of the night, and they felt Karla had a lot of technical flaws. On the men’s side the judges decided to eliminate Jonathan. Nigel said the previous night was not great. He said he understands that America loves Jonathan’s gymnastic moves but the competition is about becoming America’s best dancer, not gymnast. The judges felt Vitolio sometimes holds back the strong moves he is trying to show, and they said Jason didn’t have enough dancing in his routine.
