The six remaining contestants fly to China, where they learn martial arts poses. One girl flubs her lines in a Cover Girl commercial and is sent home.
The girls arrive in China happy and excited. All that is, except Lisa, who is sad about her poor finish the previous week. She’s in a bad mood and allows it to bring her down, despite that fact that she has made it this far in the competition. Martial Arts 101First stop on their trip is the Shanghai Film Studio where the models meet Louis Liu, a martial arts expert. Liu teaches them different martial arts positions and tells them they’ll be judged on how well they perform the positions while suspended in mid-air. Jenah and Chantal perform first. Both girls are daredevils at heart and excel at the challenge. Lisa and Saliesha go up next. Saliesha gets into the poses while Lisa struggles. Bianca expresses her fear of heights, and Heather tries to calm her down. Despite Heather’s encouragement, Bianca refuses to go through with the challenge and disqualifies herself. Heather, meanwhile, performs beautifully and wins the challenge. As the winner, Heather receives 4,000 rmb, or the equivalent of $532.18 to spend on a Shanghai shopping spree. Heather chooses Chantal to accompany her. Modeling for the Queen CollectionMiss J and Jay Manuel inform the girls that they’ll be doing a print ad and commercial for Cover Girl’s new “Queen Collection” of cosmetics. The models are told to bring an outfit that conveys their individual personality to wear on the shoot. The models are given a script to read for the commercial, but they are to add one or two lines about why they are as beautiful as a queen. Saliesha goes first and performs well, shooting the entire commercial in a couple of takes. Bianca struggles with her lines, but manages to add a unique line about her imperfections. This added touch provides an endearing quality to an otherwise rocky performance. Heather and Lisa Fail to PerformHeather struggles so much that Jay Manuel has to feed her the lines one by one. Even with that added help, she could not say the words convincingly. Jenah also had a rough time, requiring at least thirteen takes before the director felt they had one they could use. Chantal performed the best out of the group, and came off cute and bubbly on camera. Lisa flubbed her lines repeatedly and looked scared and nervous in the commercial. This, combined with her poor performance the previous few weeks, was enough to prevent her from continuing in the competition. Lisa was sent home. Next week the models attend go-sees throughout Shanghai. The following girls are still in the running to be America’s Next Top Model. In order:
