Nine contestants perform a public service announcement and are photographed as reusable garbage elements. One girl is eliminated.
After last’s week’s grueling panel vote, the girls muse about their shortcomings and what they need to work on to win the competition. Ebony ponders whether her personality is right for the modeling industry. Meanwhile, Ambreal phones her dad and asks him to pray for her since she has slipped in the last few weeks. Heather talks with Bianca about her inability to pose in a straight on shot. Bianca once again appears to be getting closer to some of the girls, but says she “keeps the competition in front of her.” Tyson Beckford in the HouseThe girls are surprised by an impromptu visit at the house by Tyson Beckford, a successful male model sent to instruct them on the art of spokesmodelling. He tells them, “Just don’t be pretty faces standing around. Use them to better the world.” Beckford tells each model to retrieve an item from the kitchen and pretend to sell it to him. The girls do their best to be serious, while at the same time melting under the influence of Beckford’s charm. Public Service Announcement ChallengeTo further practice their spokesmodelling abilities, Elizabeth Santiso, Vice President of the charity Keep a Child Alive, judges the girls on their next challenge. Contestants are broken into three teams and must create a thirty-second public service announcement for Keep a Child Alive. The team of Sarah, Ebony, and Saliesha brainstorm easily and come up with a concept early. Their commercial flows effortlessly and is best by far. However, they misunderstood Keep a Child Alive’s role to be prevention rather than treatment of AIDS, and therefore do not win the challenge. Lisa, Chantal, and Bianca seem to struggle with ideas. Their lack of practice shows as Chantal fumbles her lines and Bianca announces the charity name as "Keep a Child" rather than Keep a Child Alive. Heather, Jenah, and Ambreal also spent a great deal of time groping for ideas. Despite their lackluster delivery and simple concept, their announcement was the best by default. They win the challenge and receive nature-inspired gift baskets by Carol’s Daughter. In addition, Heather was chosen randomly to do a Carol’s Daughter photo shoot along with singer Mary J. Blige. Models Show Beauty in RecyclingTo underscore the “green” theme of this cycle’s America’s Next Top Model, renowned photographer Frederic Reshew take pictures of the girls posing as recycled garbage elements. Heather provides a generous amount of shots looking directly at the camera, while Chantal lets the wind machine get the best of her while she poses as shredded paper. Sarah manages to look beautiful despite being photographed wearing garbage bags. Saliesha accidentally knocks down her set as reusable car parts, but provides a lovely picture nonetheless. Jenah managed to make cardboard look like a high-fashion accessory, while Bianca displayed the “smile with your eyes” look she had practiced all week. Lisa's pose was as plastic as the bottles she tried to emulate. Ebony and Ambreal at the Bottom of the Garbage HeapEbony, after indicating she might even want to go home this week, fails to bring personality or enthusiasm to her shoot as bubble wrap. Ambreal looked scared and bored as recycled newspaper, prompting Jay Manuel to wonder, “When did she forget how to model?” It was no surprise after Tyra Banks announced the top contestants for the week that Ebony and Ambreal landed in the bottom two. Tyra was ready to give Ebony another chance, but the model indicated she didn’t think modeling was for her and wanted to go home. Banks told her she didn’t think it was modeling that wasn’t right for her; rather it was the criticism that came with it. “However,” she said, “There’s nothing more unattractive than a quitter.” Ebony went home, giving Ambreal yet another week to prove herself. The following girls will go through to the next round, and are still in the running to be America’s Next Top Model. In order:
