Contestants are transformed from merely cute to model perfect with makeovers from the Ken Paves Salon. One girl goes bald.
Bianca begins the episode with a rare down-to-earth moment, admitting she was scared to be in the bottom two the previous week. Conversely, Saliesha’s confidence goes overboard when she predicts she will never be in the bottom two. Victoria says she really didn’t want to be a top model until a few weeks ago. Some of the contestants wonder aloud what their next set of challenges might be. Let the Makeovers BeginThey don’t have to wait long. The green machine drops them off at the Ken Paves Salon. This can only mean one thing: makeovers! Tyra and both Jays explain the new looks they are about to receive. Tyra feels Ambreal is elegant enough to pull off a look with almost no hair. Ambreal embraced her new look saying, “I’m very excited by my new style. I’ve already started thinking about poses.” Bianca, having endured flack about her purple hair, was to get a new long, blonde weave. Bianca aired her concerns about looking like a streetwalker, however she needn’t have worried. Since she had done so much processing to her hair previously there was too much breakage to dye her hair and add another weave. Instead, they cut it off: all of it! Bianca cried softly while the razor went to her head, and revealed that her mother said once a girl cuts her hair, she’s no longer attractive. Chantal, adding insult to Bianca’s tears, ran her hands through her long blonde weave with bangs and went on about how much she loved it. Ebony received a straight weave, ala Naomi Campbell. Bianca seemed to sympathize with the pain Ebony experienced at having the stylist sew the wig on to her head. Sarah went shorter and blonde, while Victoria received highlights. Lisa’s hair went super short, Jenah got a long platinum blonde weave, and Saliesha received a hot-off-the-runway Louise Brooks short, straight bob. Janet said of her shorter, darker style, “I know I can work the new look. I feel happy and confident.” The judges loved the look of Heather’s hair so she got a small trim and more chestnut added to the color. Makeup ChallengeAfter the makeovers the girls arrived in the fashion district to meet Nigel Barker, his wife Crissy (a makeup artist), and Brent Poer from Cover Girl. Next came the makeup challenge where, in only five minutes, the eleven girls must scramble to a mirror, create a dramatic eye paired with a glossy nude lip, and head to a clothes rack to get dressed. Sarah won the challenge, and will do a video on how to use Cover Girl’s new online makeup mirror. A Garden of Model BeautiesFor their photo shoot, Lionel Delny photographed the girls as flowers. Chantal and Saliesha seemed to struggle with their shots as baby’s breath and tulips, respectively. After her makeover, Bianca found more confidence while posing as a sunflower, and Heather managed to stand out as weeds. Ebony produced a stunning bird of paradise shot, but was reminded by the judges to improve her level of charm and personality. At one point Tyra even traded places with Ebony to show her how she looked to the rest of the judges. One Girl Pruned From the BunchTwiggy remarked that she found it interesting Victoria was given cactus to represent, which is known as being quite prickly. Victoria quickly interrupted her saying, “Can I get one thing straight? I don’t have a prickly disposition.” Nigel remarked that despite Victoria’s intelligence she didn’t seem that wise when it came to dealing with people. Victoria was sent home. The following girls will go through to the next round, and are still in the running to be America’s Next Top Model. In order:
