ANTM Cycle 9 – Week 3America's Next Top Models Visit the Fashion Madhouse
Contestants walk the runway in tight designer clothing and pose on a rock-climbing wall. One is eliminated.
Previously on ANTM, twelve remaining girls were chosen to continue through to this week’s challenges. As the show opens, Kimberly and Bianca are at the model house, practicing their runway skills out by the pool. Kimberly asks Bianca to critique her walk and Bianca purposely gave her bad tips because she doesn’t want to encourage anyone who could possibly beat her. Fashion MadhouseThe girls take a field trip to the “Fashion Madhouse” – an old insane asylum decorated as a haunted house. The girls are scared to their wits until they see Miss J appear in a nurse uniform. Giggles of relief follow. Miss J tells the girls that sometimes during a runway show they will have to walk in tight and often restrictive clothing accompanied by extremely high heels. Despite being uncomfortable they still must exude confidence. To get them used to the idea he dresses them in straight jackets and, of course, stilettos, as he evaluates their walk. Miss J compliments Saliesha as she does the best with her strut. Bianca and Saliesha ArgueBack at the model house, Bianca confesses her feeling that Saliesha is her biggest competition. After last week’s shouting match with Lisa, it’s clear Bianca will try to get in the face of any contestant she feels has the ability to beat her. While the girls are hanging out chatting about the upcoming challenge, Bianca begins taking jabs at Saliesha. At one point she tells Saliesha she is a “border line plus size” prompting Saliesha to stand on the bed and shout that she doesn’t care who attacks her. Bianca and Saliesha then get into a shouting match. Colleen Quen and a Trip to ParisDesigner Colleen Quen, known for her restrictive clothing, judges the next challenge. She determines who does the best job not only walking but also moving in the limiting garments. The girl who illustrated what Quen envisioned the ensemble to be wins the challenge: a trip to Paris to help debut Quen’s line. Saliesha had the best movement and easily wins the trip. Model On a WireTo follow the restrictive theme of the episode, the girls did a photo shoot high up on a rock-climbing wall. The juxtaposition of the high fashion garments combined with the grittiness of the wall gave the girls a chance to showcase their knowledge of body positioning and movement. Jay Manuel gave them all the advice that if they don’t self analyze what they’re doing on a frame-by-frame basis they will succeed. After the shoot Saliesha and Bianca chat with Heather at home about how far she’s come. They each tell her how well she is doing without even realizing it. This touching moment is a nice contrast to the shouting match by Saliesha and Bianca earlier. It also shows Heather coming out of her shell and learning to relate to the other girls despite her Asperger’s affliction. Judging TimeThe judges critique each girl’s picture from the photo shoot. Tyra asks Heather about the difficulty looking someone in the eye with her Asperger’s syndrome. She compliments Heather on her shot, saying she delivered a true fashion picture. Janet had great shots mixed in with terrible ones, so consistency will be her struggle. The judges tell Ebony she needs to exude confidence. Lisa produced a nice picture but self-consciousness showed in her face. Saliesha posed upside down, taking a risk but making it work. Miss J tells Bianca she looked mad in her photo. Twiggy said Ambreal’s picture was the “first really elegant one we’ve seen.” Jenah confessed that she felt comfortable up on the wall because she was a climbing instructor for two years. Scrunched, and Going HomeTwiggy said Kimberly looked a “bit scrunched” in her shot, almost making it look as if she had hit the wall. In deliberation the judges felt Kimberly had a great face but didn’t know how to work it. Tyra, especially, loves her ears. In the end, they felt Kimberly wasn’t progressing as strongly as the other girls, and she is eliminated. Tyra announces that the following girls will go through to the next round, and are still in the running to be America’s Next Top Model. In order:
